why the hell did you put "The Monkees" up against "The Jeffersons"

In short, people rightfully complained about better shows missing from the bracket, so we decided to scrap it after deciding on a perfect 64 and starting over.

I thought "30 Rock" vs "Laverne & Shirley" hurt and then I read a little further

this is the exact opposite of the food poll where I think every choice is going to be incredibly difficult and painful (well aside from giving Larry Sanders and SitC the gasface)

I guess no poll could contain every choice, tho it does seem like an oversight to poll Coach but not poll Party Down.

(Tho what do I know. Maybe ILX has a bunch of hidden Coach fans.)

xp: Yes, it's a total oversight to include a really popular, well-regarded sitcom that did really well in the ratings and lasted a long time over a series no one watched that got canceled halfway through one season.

I voted for two shows I've never seen, just so I could vote for Larry Sanders. Please don't let it lose to Will Smith...Just in terms of familiarity, I could see that happening.

lol you can see how much attention I paid to "Party Down"

"Coach" won 2 Emmys and was a top 20 show for 6 out of 8 seasons; that fits my criteria for "well-regarded"

I've seen like maybe 15 minutes of Larry Sanders and basically consider it a non-entity because I don't know it at all.

dan you should def give larry sanders a shot, its pretty fucking awesome srsly

the hardest decision for me was bracket 4 because aw betty white and all but the golden girls is like eating sugar cubes and sex and the city is terrible so i would prefer to vote against both of them

oh it also got an ASCAP award for Top TV Series like 5 years in a row

well i never saw them harm an animal so that makes sense

Hmmm, I've seen more than 3 or 4 episodes of only about 24 of these shows. And probably half of those are shows that I haven't watched since I was a kid (like Coach or Night Court or Leave It to Beaver), so I don't really have strong feelings about them. :/

ya I was thinking of passes available for everything (inc. the ILXor favourite 'no opinion but feel the need to vote anyway' option). Feelin dum for not realising that the number of poll options was just a matter of power of, though. :'(

boy o boy looking at the full schedule that's a lot of crazy tough options for a first round. It's like Sophie's Choice if Sophie had about 50 children and was only able to take half.

It would have to get past some heavyweights like Frasier, Cheers, Newhart, 30 Rock, Three's Company, and so on. The only weight the right side might have is that there are more shows on there that have semi-active threads on ILX at any given time.

I'm confident it would beat Three's Company--I mean, I'd like to think so, anyway. The other four you mention, not so sure. It's a longshot, granted, but I do think it's conceivable. The big question with Larry Sanders in any match-up, I think, will be how many people have actually seen it. I'd be very surprised if anyone who ever saw six or more episodes felt blase about it.

well, watching 6 episodes of ANY show kind of indicates feelings stronger than "blase" doesn't it?

I've only seen a couple eps all the way through, but clips of several others. However, I will stan for Three's Company until the end of time (and then some).

I could name many shows I've idly watched a few times that I could take or leave..."blase" might be overstating it.

the hardest I've ever laughed at anything is likely the late-era "Three's Company" episode when Jack and Terri" think they've found a dead body in a trunk in their new neighbor's apartment

We're really splitting hairs here...Let me rephrase, and I could be completely wrong: I think most anyone who's seen The Larry Sanders Show at least six times would be ready to vote for it over almost anything. Not absolutely, of course, but almost anything. (No, I don't have specific numbers for "most anyone" or "almost.")
