So anybody anticipating this? two conflicting reviews on Rottentomatoes, one which credits good performances and the script but slights the direction, and another which just didn't like it. T.I.'s charisma has me drawn in, plus I love heist movies.
Tho seeing Chris Brown as a thug is simultaneously discomforting (but I did LOL at the trailer as he's the only one who completely looks out of place). who's gonna see dis? has anybody seen dis?

I went to this at midnight. I was so tired I left the movie 40 minutes in because I kept falling asleep.
the bits I remember were pretty good. gonna have to try and see this again. ugh. This is why it's a good idea not to pre-buy tickets to events you know won't sell out, then you're obligated to go or waste money.

This was good, but loses steam when the camera cuts become excessive. Chris Brown was awful, looked way out of place...his lisp is in full effect and at one point he does a musical theater-esque bell kick on the way inside a club, T.I., Michael Ealy were good, guy with British accent was awesome...

did you go back or are you reviewing it based on the 40 minutes you kept falling asleep during

trying not to be snarky but i'm not sure which one would be worse.

Heh I went back

man i see a lot of movies but paying to see this twice in a two-day period? kudos or something.

Hayden Christiansen and his damn hat are the main reason I probably won't be seeing this, plus the last Matt Dillion heist movie I saw was godawful.

Misread Paul Walker as Paul Weller. Would that have made it better?
― William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 28 August 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)
Hayden Christiansen was actually pretty good, surprisingly. took me a minute to realize it was him.
I mean there's some really exciting scenes in this movie, although some faults are that we've seen a lot of it before, and a lot of underdeveloped character moments.
Case in point, Matt Dillon has a daughter who he talks about nonstop, as well as I guess an ex-wife, and he's obviously bothered by it, but then while driving his daughter spending time with her going to a museum, finds criminals that he needs to tail...TELLS HER TO BUCKLE UP, almost gets in about 5 wrecks, and tails the criminals WITH HIS DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. he then empties out her backpack onto the floor to find a pen, then immediately goes to the police station and makes her wait while he works on the case, and they never go to the museum, and she's crushed.
AND SHE NEVER REAPPEARS FOR THE REST OF THE MOVIE. WTF...why introduce that if you were gonna discard it so nonchalantly.

movie's getting critically panned so I'm apparently being nicer to it than most!

OH hey I didn't realize there was a thread about this and was clogging up the ILM CHRIS BROWN thread about this instead.
Anyway. They should have had Chris Brown slide down the banister from the VIP floor in one of those opening scenes so that we would know that he did parkour insead of him pulling it out of nowhere near the end.
This was trying to be the urban Heat but is more like the urban Smokin' Aces.
I wondered at one point whether the original pitch for this movie was: "OK, we're gonna get Jay-Z, and Eminem, and Justin Timberlake."
That actress from Secrets and Lies did really well as the crackhead sister.

I like Matt Dillon a lot in general, but in a movie like this I was constantly reminded that he looks and sounds identical to his brother, Johnny Drama on Entourage.

Also: still haven't gotten used to Stringer Bell having a British accent.
T.I.'s a decent actor.
30 seconds into this I knew the editing was going to keep me from getting pulled in. Really would be a good film to show to film-school classes for inspiration -- to show how a movie can imitate Heat and The Bourne Supremacy (close-up fighting) but show how hard it is to do with the clarity that Mann and Greengrass have.

yea the shakey cam was annoying to ridiculous degrees
