I would rank them as follows in terms of my interest level:

Boardwalk Empire (HBO)
Running Wilde (FOX)
The Walking Dead (AMC)
Terriers (FX)
No Ordinary Family (ABC)
The Event (NBC)

But I'd add Game of Thrones if that counts.

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I wonder why they didn't mention Game of Thrones. I'm interested in that.

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:09 (fifteen years ago)

Lone Star (FOX) looks interesting too.

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:10 (fifteen years ago)

Considering how solid NBC Thursday night lineups have been (even shows with shaky starts, like P&R) maybe Outsourced won't be terrible.

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

The show that's 24 crossed with Lost should win the fight against the show that's Heroes crossed with Lost.

James Mitchell, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

I am just bummed because I know that "Chase" and "Undercovers" will both be terrible and yet they will pander to me so well that I will watch them anyway and get totally invested in them and then get frustrated when they are canceled after 3 episodes.

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

Is it criminal that I thought the youtube preview for Defenders didn't look terrible? Maybe I just have stockholm syndrome from years of watching syndicated According to Jim

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

Just the premise of "Undercovers" makes me want to barf. Married spies. How cute. I don't care if J.J. Abrams is behind it. There is FAIL written all over it.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:26 (fifteen years ago)

According to Jim

Unlike most shows, the best thing about According to Jim was the children. They should've gotten their own spinoff.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

Challenging opinion: I've never liked anything J.J. Abrams has done on television.

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

also she is v v pretty </neanderthal>

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

would assassinate?

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

OMG that's her that was in Bonekickers! (she was also in Doctor Who and Spooks and stuff as well). Don't you have any actors of your own?

ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:37 (fifteen years ago)

i dont really know n e thing abt these shows but im kinda (stupidly) hype for the nikita thing

Lamp, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:38 (fifteen years ago)

yes she was the equally lovely younger sister of the lovely Martha Jones

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

Bonekickers is the worst show ever made.

ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:45 (fifteen years ago)

I bet she was v v pretty in it though

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

i bet you guys anything undercovers will be great

SEXSPIONAGE

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

I'll watch it.

Dan, she was very pretty in it, yes. It was actually hilariously bad (I watched it all, obviously), and I'm not quite sure if it was intentionally so.

ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:11 (fifteen years ago)

What's the chance Boardwalk Empire turns out to be more Carnivale than Sopranos?

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:12 (fifteen years ago)

I'm totally watching 'the Event', just the kind of nonsense I love. Mind you I thought that about FlashForward too, which was shockingly bad.

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:21 (fifteen years ago)

Were you really into Happytown too?

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

ha not even I could get down with "Flash Forward"

my wife totally was into it, though

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

I liked FlashForward! I will need to google some of these things to find a new show to get into (and I will obviously pick the wrong one, which will get cancelled after 4 episodes)

ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:22 (fifteen years ago)

I liked Flash Forward until things started getting elaborated upon, and the "answers" were completely unsatisfactory. So, like, the first two episodes.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:24 (fifteen years ago)

Mostly just looking forward to Ride-Along, but that's mid-season.

Bag Smart, Street Stupid (Eazy), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

Undercovers kind of reminds me of Alias, and since the first two seasons of Alias is my all-time favorite I am looking forward to this.

However, I voted for Boardwalk Empire due to the Buscemi. Definitely give Detroit 187 a try though as I know it has given a few friends and acquaintances employment.

ô_o (Nicole), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:29 (fifteen years ago)

Since moving here I don't have a TV so rely on Hulu or streaming or DVDs... it stops me from watching a lot of crap I'd otherwise just have on in the background, but also means I can miss out on something awesome. So I rely on you guys! Over the past year or so I've caught up (almost) on 24, Damages, the Wire, Dexter (just waiting for the last season) and next up I've got Breaking Bad and Big Love - someone gave me the box set so I'm getting into it even if it's not the kind of thing I'd normally bother with. Didn't see Happytown and have yet to get into the Sopranos, West Wing, that thing with Lovejoy, or Mad Men, which I started watching but couldn't get into.

I'm also keeping up with UK comedy stuff from back home and keeping an eye out for any decent US sitcoms.

Not the real Village People, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 18:36 (fifteen years ago)

Zombies + AMC = :)

Darin, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:39 (fifteen years ago)

Eh. I have a tough time buying Andrew Lincoln as a badass zombie-killer. I could be totally wrong, though.

ô_o (Nicole), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:45 (fifteen years ago)

Running Wilde vs. The Walking Dead

outlier: probable desperately sad attempt to enjoy THE EVENT that fails

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

I'd be more geeked about The Walking Dead had I ever read the comic

How could you forget the crazy hooker? (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

also it better be darabont in goddamn mist mode, not shawshank mode

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:52 (fifteen years ago)

btw i was not making a running/walking ts intentionally there its just how it turned out.

if boardwalk empire is more carnivale than sopranos i will love it, but i doubt thats going to be the case

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:53 (fifteen years ago)

re: walking dead - if nothing else the zombies look nice

http://media.amctv.com/img/originals/walking-dead/About-Zombies-288.jpg

Darin, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:55 (fifteen years ago)

oh man looking at those zombies i just had a desperate moment of hope that darabont would go balls out and do the series in black and white which would be AWESOME

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 19:57 (fifteen years ago)

Andrew Lincoln as a badass zombie-killer

You're taking the piss, right? Oh, you're not.

ailsa, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

I hope Walking Dead + Game of Thrones start a trend of great (nerd) fiction properties being adapted for serial television

Mordy, Wednesday, 18 August 2010 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

HI DERE I think you would like the comic.

The trailer I saw from Comic-Con looked great, definitely more Mist than Shawshank. And the musical choice for it is A+.

a mix of music (Lionel Ritchie) and kicks (my tongue) (Phil D.), Wednesday, 18 August 2010 23:33 (fifteen years ago)

i watched that trailer before i read the rest of the thread - only realised it was EGG right at the end

this half-life amirite zzzz

r|t|c, Thursday, 19 August 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

anyway it looks pretty played out already.

all of these shows look rubbish tbh, altho terriers might be fun i guess? and i will probably happily sit through the belushi/o'connell one in the unlikely event i should be in front of a telly same time it's on.

confidently predict lone star will be the least watchable out of the whole lot.

r|t|c, Thursday, 19 August 2010 00:49 (fifteen years ago)

I read a bit of The Walking Dead, it was boring. I'll still check out the show.

Gotta be Boardwalk Empire really.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 19 August 2010 01:11 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i'm kinda hoping the tv show will be better than the comic

just sayin, Thursday, 19 August 2010 10:16 (fifteen years ago)

The half zombie lady at 4:05 looks pretty awesome.

Evan, Thursday, 19 August 2010 13:00 (fifteen years ago)

So was this comic a rip off of 28 Days Later or the other way around?

Darin, Thursday, 19 August 2010 15:22 (fifteen years ago)

No, both were a rip off of Dawn of the Dead.

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 19 August 2010 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

I mean the waking up from a coma in a hospital oblivious to the outbreak part. Seems like a pretty direct rip to me.

Darin, Thursday, 19 August 2010 15:34 (fifteen years ago)

that does sound kinda direct re: coma specific but 90% of zombie flicks revolve around the sudden realization of OH SHIT ZOMBIES so im willing to give it a pass.

gg eileen (jjjusten), Thursday, 19 August 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, it's not like I won't watch it anyway.

Darin, Thursday, 19 August 2010 16:21 (fifteen years ago)

Day of the Triffids opens with a guy leaves hospital to find an apocalypse type scenario doesn't it?

rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 19 August 2010 16:28 (fifteen years ago)

Oh yeah, I wonder why they didn't mention Game of Thrones. I'm interested in that.

Pushed to 2011.

What's the chance Boardwalk Empire turns out to be more Carnivale than Sopranos?

Don't worry - it's definitely not.

She Got the Shakes, Thursday, 19 August 2010 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

AMC does keep a production blog up for "Walking Dead." They put up this photo today, which IMO is pretty awesome.

"Do Not Enter" sign = clever.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 19 August 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, but does it work?

Mark G, Thursday, 19 August 2010 19:37 (fifteen years ago)

I love television.

Mordy, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 00:25 (fifteen years ago)

Arnett's Running Wilde looks like a milky version of de Rossi's character from Better Off Ted. Too bad that's not coming back instead.

SYNTAX ERROR (remy bean), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

Just got into Better Off Ted, really good

Wilde seems prety much Arnett's usual thing, wich doesn't mean it can't be fantastic. I'm only worried about having to see Felicity doing comedy, maybe if they can find a way to keep her off the screen.

cackle of rads (Nicole), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 17:14 (fifteen years ago)

Even without the Walker Brothers this would be a fantastic trailer, but it made it about 10,000 times more awesome that it otherwise would have been.

cackle of rads (Nicole), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 17:18 (fifteen years ago)

why so many cops & lawyers shows? is it that there's something especially resonant now about these fantasies of justice or is it just ratings-grubbing?

high hopes for Boardwalk Empire. seems different, at least.

her breath came in short pants (sciolism), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 18:06 (fifteen years ago)

uh, watch TV much? procedurals will never die. although there might be more new ones than usual since there isn't one big dominant lawyer show at the moment and the big franchises (L&O, CSI) are getting pretty old.

BACKSTABBERS: THEY SMILE @ U FACE (some dude), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 19:28 (fifteen years ago)

They are making a huge push for this Will Arnett show. Two leads are on the Emmys right now. Arnett being all sweaty + gross + hilarious.

Mordy, Monday, 30 August 2010 00:49 (fifteen years ago)

plus keri russell looked kinda gorgeous as usual. i will watch that show.

sonderangerbot, Monday, 30 August 2010 01:07 (fifteen years ago)

Running Wilde sounds good on paper since it reunites a few of the people from Arrested Development, but the trailers that I've seen don't have the seem vibe that I used to get from watching Arrested Development. The quirkiness seems a little more forced and strained, and Will Arnett's character seems like an even less likable version of the character that he played on Arrested Development. Hopefully, the full episodes play out better than the trailers that I've seen so far.

Totally read this as Ken Russell.

ailsa, Monday, 30 August 2010 09:20 (fifteen years ago)

Sure, it’s fun to pretend that shows like Lone Star or Boardwalk Empire are going to ignite a new round of auteur-ish TV, but it’s far more likely that people will return to their old comfort foods. A recent survey of which new shows viewers were most looking forward to this fall conducted by Program Pulse Premiere Tracking found the top two shows—in a tie—to be Law & Order: Los Angeles and Hawaii Five-O. As much as we’d all like to pretend otherwise, most TV is watched by your mom.
