Good idea to start this poll the week that all British people are away on holiday, right?

Karen D. Tregaskin, Friday, 20 August 2010 10:10 (fifteen years ago)

England, the oppressed nation. They don't even have a national holiday or a local parliament, poor things.

seandalai, Friday, 20 August 2010 11:08 (fifteen years ago)

voted for cornwall

HOOS' THE BOSS (ken c), Friday, 20 August 2010 11:10 (fifteen years ago)

They don't even have a national holiday

Yeah, that one's always good for LOLs. Of course, St Andrew's Day was only made a Bank Holiday in Scotland in 2006 and, get this, a Bank Holiday where "banks are not required to close and employers are not required to give their employees the day off as a holiday"...

I was born in England. I have lived here half my life and currently live here, and I still can't bring myself to vote for it.

I should have made "London" its own country, innit?

Karen D. Tregaskin, Friday, 20 August 2010 11:18 (fifteen years ago)

Tregaskin = vote Cornwall

It dreamed to Tom D. of the Caucasus (Tom D.), Friday, 20 August 2010 11:23 (fifteen years ago)

I have absolutely no Cornish in me.

(Insert joke about wanting some Cornish in me.)

Karen D. Tregaskin, Friday, 20 August 2010 11:26 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

R. S. Thomas tells me to vote for Wales.

Aimless, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 23:54 (fifteen years ago)

Well, this was the least successful ILX poll ever.

Karen D. Tregaskin, Thursday, 26 August 2010 09:30 (fifteen years ago)

Oh, I think there's been worse ones than this, ever visit ILM?

It dreamed to Tom D. of the Caucasus (Tom D.), Thursday, 26 August 2010 09:31 (fifteen years ago)

Tempted to vote Scotland - but I've hardly been there. I've been to the others. Northern Ireland was quite nice, but I went to Bangor which is fairly suburban. Wales is pretty. But yeah, for all the good it's done me I plumped for the devil I know.

Scotland was really kind of a letdown after the way my family talked it up. But you know, if it were really so great, my grandparents wouldn't have left.

Karen D. Tregaskin, Thursday, 26 August 2010 09:51 (fifteen years ago)

"Right. I mean, if it was just the potatoes that were affected, at the end of the day, you’re will pay the price if you’re a fussy eater. If they could afford to emigrate then they could afford to eat in a modest restaurant."

It dreamed to Tom D. of the Caucasus (Tom D.), Thursday, 26 August 2010 09:53 (fifteen years ago)

Voted for Wales based on who's got the silliest flag.

Chaim Poutine (NickB), Thursday, 26 August 2010 09:56 (fifteen years ago)

If you're implying that I'm old enough to have grandparents who emigrated during the 18th Century, instead of, as actually happened, after WWII (and, having served in Africa, suddenly realising that there were countries where it didn't rain 300 days a year and snow on the other 65) then I am actually going to slap you.

it's too small and concise. is the problem. nowadays if it's not a multi-thread, multi-poll, multi-group tournament mega poll it doesn't run. maybe one for every single county in the UK would work.

HOOS' THE BOSS (ken c), Thursday, 26 August 2010 11:05 (fifteen years ago)

Voted NI but I'm aware I haven't seen much of Wales or Scotland.

There are lots of things I quite like about England but the history of English patriotism makes it pretty hard to stomach voting for, if you like it so much you why don't you go to the nearest pub with a giant St George's flag outside and chat about the latest Daily Mail outrage to people in England shirts with England tattoos

though since Londoners are already disgusted at the terrible provincials their wonderful city is lumped in with in the other 98% of the country (OK, 84% by population), maybe I should pretend those people definitely don't exist and it's really brilliant here

Wales has some nice bits in it, so does England. I'm sure Northern Ireland does too, but I've never been. But I like it here, so Scotland wins for having some nice bits I don't have to travel very far to see. Also responsible for that Scottish things and people that I like thread, which was great.

There was some Indian confectionery in our office today, and I said, "Oh that looks like tablet". Little realising that no-one had a clue what tablet was and that, in fact, it doesn't seem to exist in England at all

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 26 August 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)

tempted now to attempt to create a deliberately unpopular poll and see if it gets more votes than those

but I suppose "vote for your favourite component off this list of obscure cogs and sprockets I found on the web" would get some lol-votes, so the only real bomb of a poll I can think of would be of e.g. the 2 CD-Rs released by some defunct unsigned local act in a genre ILX doesn't like, and there isn't really any flair to that

(which the two on this thread definitely have in my book)

vampire headphase (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 26 August 2010 14:31 (fifteen years ago)

Just be contrarian, I'll vote England. N Yorks moors, the Lake Country, Devon, London, white cliffs, recent barge trip up the Thames, easiest access to France...
