Sports Night, That '70s Show, The Bob Newhart Show, Cheers

No tough choices at all.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 24 August 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

aye, pity bump

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 06:20 (fifteen years ago)

wow this is a really uninspiring list tbh

Frasier, Good Times, Soap, Cheers

and really the only one i have a lot of feeling for is soap

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

If this round fizzles out, I may not even take it to completion.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:31 (fifteen years ago)

have you considered trying to start an argument about race or gender?

iatee, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:32 (fifteen years ago)

Maybe I'm just more into sitcoms as an artform than other people? I thought this would go over big, even though half the board is british.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

I like your graphs but I can't even vote on most of these, never even heard of Soap

iatee, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

eh i feel like things will heat up as we get further in the rounds - i mean is anyone really excited about fucking sports night for instance? once the chaff gets weeded out i think itll get better. also, poll fatigue.

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:44 (fifteen years ago)

On one of these threads I said that Sports Night is my favorite sitcom ever. So consider me excited.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

I have to admit, I'm looking forward to the Simpsons/Family Guy battle. Although, I'm pretty sure that among ilxors, Family Guy is like rotten eggs. Maybe if it were a battle in Entertainment Weekly, it would be closer.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:47 (fifteen years ago)

I hate Family Guy, so whatever it goes against I vote for even if I loathe that too.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:48 (fifteen years ago)

obv no offense was intended EZ, it just seems like the general ILX tone on sports night (and several others) is kind of "oh yes i recognize that that is a show"

also discussion will come alive when something w/hardcore dudes behind it (ie larry sanders which i am getting a bit worried about) loses which should generate at least a day or two of OH U FUCKSTICKS rage posts

gg eileen (jjjusten), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:51 (fifteen years ago)

a day or two of OH U FUCKSTICKS rage posts

I LOVE THOSE!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

Sports Night, Good Times, The Bob Newhart Show, Cheers

No situation or bit of dialogue in any episode of Frasier has ever elicited a laugh from me. Voting for Cheers just as a vote for Dan Hedaya as Nick Tortelli.

My totem animal is a hamburger. (WmC), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:53 (fifteen years ago)

None taken. I'm one of very few who has shown a preference for it in anyway, that's all.

I agree that bitching is easier than pimping, so the ripples from the sinking show will shake things up more than someone yelling huzzahs from the deck before it goes down.

will be genuinely saddened if cheers loses out this early, that show remains golden to me.

Stevie is a bit lame, if you hate fun (stevie), Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:55 (fifteen years ago)

The humor on Cheers is what I can usually take or leave. The few times when it's actually poignant are what I remember most fondly (like when Diane leaves and Sam says after she walks out the door, "Have a good life." EXCELLENT!)

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

Fever: Aren't you getting in the neighbourhood of 30-50 votes per poll? That seems pretty active to me. If you want to see what a truly moribund poll looks like, go search out my P.J. Soles, Willie Mays/Orson Welles/Sigmund Freud, or "Till the Morning Comes"/"Kooks" polls...

clemenza, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 19:30 (fifteen years ago)

Cheers had one of my favourite poignant moments ever: when Sam offers Rebecca her job back after burning down the bar.

clemenza, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 19:31 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Frasier - 19
Sports Night - 16

That '70s Show - 18
Good Times - 17

The Bob Newhart Show - 20
Soap - 15

Cheers - 30
Three's Company - 5

T7S vs. Good Times was really close. I honestly expected Good Times to survive, though. Norman Lear is taking a damn beating.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 23:14 (fifteen years ago)

You Frasier fans are looney.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

I'm pourin one out for Three's Company.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 25 August 2010 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

Would've gone with: Frasier, Good Times, The Bob Newhart Show, Cheers

Have never even heard of Sports Night until now.

xhuxk, Thursday, 26 August 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

I adore Sports Night (still my favorite Sorkin), but it's kind of the redheaded stepchild in this tournament. OK, it's got a laugh track for the first half of season 1, but it's kind of not a comedy?

Leee, Friday, 27 August 2010 03:39 (fifteen years ago)

Jesus Christ, I can't think of a more unjustifiably self-satisfied show in TV history than That '70s Show.

Eric H., Friday, 27 August 2010 03:47 (fifteen years ago)

sports show's kind of more dramedy, innit
