Nice but affordable hotels that feel like a "treat"?

Ideally within a couple of hours drive/train of Oxford.
Spa hotels might be a plus.
Cheers.

I assume you mean Oxford, Mississippi. The Downtown Oxford Inn is charming and centrally located, and its rates are quite reasonable. Not a spa hotel, however.

Um ... no ... Oxford, UK.

I don't know this "UK" you're talking about, so I'm going to assume you mistyped and meant KY, that is, Oxford, Kentucky. As far as I know there are no hotels in that town to stay, but you could stay in Lexington instead. The Griffin Gate Marriott has a spa, though it's a bit pricey (for Kentucky).

The Pheasant Country Inn is a nice B&B near Oxford, IN (foaling place of Dan Patch!)

(You could try Bignell Park in Chesterton? I don't know much about it but it seems to be well reviewed and Chesterton is a lovely place with a wonderful pub. No spa though.)

what's affordable?

That's a good question.

When I saw a hotel advertised (in a newspaper feature) as being from £99.00 per night I thought that was fine but when I tried to book that hotel and it worked out at £170.00 per night for the cheapest room that wasn't.

I like the Lygon Arms in Broadway (the Cotswolds Broadway, that is, not the American one).

always had reasonable luck on the likes of booking.com and ranking seach results for best reviewed by young couples.

www.slh.com will give you great hotels, but no guarantees on price. but you can search for the hotel there and try to get it cheaper through aforementioned booking.om or a similar site, i've done this in the past a few times and it's always worked out pretty well.

Any interesting stops to break up a journey between Oxford and Newquay? Good caffs or pubs? Farm-shops and delis? Good views or tourist-y stops?
