I remember seeing the trailer for this before Toy Story 3, and thinking, "So the hook for this is HOLY FUCKING SHIT PHOTOREALISTIC OWLS?"

I laughed so hard through that trailer when I saw it in the theater! The owls are so fucking earnest! Their eyes mean it, so hard! I think if I saw the whole movie, my soul would probably escape my body.

I am so glad I'm not the only one that thought it was a whale on that Roxy Music cover! I finally noticed the helmeted dude a few years ago after years of thinking it was a whale mid jump.

from the pic i thought this'd be dark and gritty owls vs rats warfare or something. just looks like 'where the owl things are' to me tbh.

Too bad Christopher Nolan didn't direct this.

This was pretty fun. My only complaints were:

1.) the Owl City song, which wasn't egregiously bad as much as just completely out-of-place.
2.) There's a line in the trailer where someone cautions the young owls: "When you've flown as far as you can, you're halfway there!" which makes you think that it's gonna be some huge epic, LOTR questing thing. This particular journey takes a little over a minute.

Altogether though, our family thoroughly enjoyed it. Great owl vs. owl dogfighting scenes. The 3D wasn't overwhelmingly great (like How To Train Your Dragon was), but there were still some cool showpieces.

No the metal flecks are a big thing in the movie. I was giggling so hard whenever the evil owls were like, "We have collected nearly enough flecks to control the world!"

The bad guys were driven by some sort of owl eugenics wherein barn owls are the master race, and the metal flecks give them power.

I think the whole thing is a troll on Don Bluth, if anyone...after so many years of him making movies with evil owls, giving a whole movie about evil owls and very very obvious Pure of Heart Goodness themes to Zach Snyder.

So wrong, to do that to the great man.

I predict that this will be the better than any other movie that Zach Snyder has made to this point...

Finally saw this last night. Really has to be one of the most insane fantasy films ever. The almost palpable realism of the face fluff, making us want to pet the screen. The relentless cognitive dissonance of the premise. The Dead Can Dance Moment (so glad you warned me about this Abbs). My wife loved it so much I think she was having an irl out of body experience.

We also watched this at like 1 in the morning so there was an added layer of hypnagogic delerium on my part.
