i picked "every month or so, as i am isolated" to give myself the benefit of the doubt that i'm not lazy.

corn smut (get bent), Friday, 3 September 2010 01:49 (fifteen years ago)

it's true though... i live in a very spread-out region and it's hard to get people with adult responsibilities and relationships to be in the same place at the same time.

corn smut (get bent), Friday, 3 September 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

Once a week to ten days. I don't count drinking buddies.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 3 September 2010 01:51 (fifteen years ago)

'less than that'

the ~5 people I would consider my best friends all live in different time zones now.

iatee, Friday, 3 September 2010 01:54 (fifteen years ago)

does 'see on facebook' count

iatee, Friday, 3 September 2010 01:54 (fifteen years ago)

about once a week, sometimes twice

Mordy, Friday, 3 September 2010 02:01 (fifteen years ago)

every month or so, i live a couple of hours away from all of them.

k¸ (darraghmac), Friday, 3 September 2010 09:27 (fifteen years ago)

I'm not prepared to click "never" yet but this thread has depressingly made me realise that it is less than once a month.

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Friday, 3 September 2010 09:46 (fifteen years ago)

once a year

shorn_blond.avi (dayo), Friday, 3 September 2010 10:05 (fifteen years ago)

some of them weekly, some of them less than once a month. lifestyles innit. + I am sitting next to one of my bestest friends in the world as I type this, who I haven't seen for three years, because we live in different hemispheres.

Not enough. Sadface.

Ned Trifle (Notinmyname), Friday, 3 September 2010 10:26 (fifteen years ago)

Ditto. But this is because (1) I am a hermit and (2) they keep moving away (this is not my fault) and (3) the ones that are still here have families and partners and lives and stuff to be getting on with, and hanging out time just drifts away into nothing (I also have a tendency to get on with non-friend stuff, so I'm not apportioning blame or owt).

I like to think this doesn't matter, because I still stay in touch with them even if I don't physically see them, which is what makes them close friends.

ailsa, Friday, 3 September 2010 10:39 (fifteen years ago)

The framing of the poll depresses me, because it's maybe every six months and I thought I was doing quite well

Ismael Klata, Friday, 3 September 2010 11:36 (fifteen years ago)

but that can be doing quite well, if there's geographic divides etc. i see plenty of my mates tbh, making the effort to all get together once a month or so is still pretty good.

k¸ (darraghmac), Friday, 3 September 2010 11:38 (fifteen years ago)

What would be really depressing for me would be to graph this over the past 20 years:

I had no idea my life was mirroring the population of Australia's states and territories so closley.

clemenza, Friday, 3 September 2010 12:08 (fifteen years ago)

Same boat as iatee, all my 5 or so very best friends live in other countries. I guess I see each one about twice a year.

seandalai, Friday, 3 September 2010 12:12 (fifteen years ago)

My best friends are basically all from college and most live in other cities. Even the ones in NYC tend to be an hour a way by public transit.

Sorry--I was feeling depressed about my own state, so it rather inflected the way I put things. 'Glad' to see I'm not the only one in this state, though.

You're my best friends. I see you every day.

Every day, we are flat/housemates

optimizing the emotional effects of Redneck Hoe by Insane Clown Posse (corey), Saturday, 4 September 2010 03:54 (fifteen years ago)

About once or twice a week. None of my friends went the college route, I however did - but there are no dorms at the university I attend (University Colorado @ Denver... everybody rents an apartment round here) so it's somewhat difficult making friends.

i want to cry

baddest boy on the internet (kelpolaris), Saturday, 4 September 2010 04:15 (fifteen years ago)

once every couple of months, mostly because I've got a kid, though most of my friends don't live that close either

peter in montreal, Saturday, 4 September 2010 04:35 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 6 September 2010 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

kelpolaris, I had trouble making friends in college too. It seemed impossible to get them to seek me out, I always had to try to involve myself with them, no matter how often I saw them seeking each other out.

Poor lonely ILX.

seandalai, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 23:27 (fifteen years ago)

I feel less bad about myself, at any rate.

... (James Morrison), Wednesday, 8 September 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)

Once or twice a week. Used to be more than that, but unfortunately the combination of work + studies has narrowed my options for weekday activities.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 13:05 (fifteen years ago)

But I guess I'm lucky that I was born and have lived my whole life in the biggest metropol in Finland, so few of my friends from youth have moved away from here, except for the handful who live abroad.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 13:09 (fifteen years ago)

WTF, I thought I would be a freak for only seeing her once a week. So uh, yeah, once a week. Used to call eachother tons but I am not in the right mood now to do that.

Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 8 September 2010 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

Then again, you tend to do that (see eachother more) more when you're younger. Once you hit your twenties/thirties, you tend to see your friends less I guess...

Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 8 September 2010 15:24 (fifteen years ago)

one is a roommate so every day, others are elsewhere in country currently so a few times a year

ciderpress, Wednesday, 8 September 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)

Once or twice a week.

I live with my big bro and we're tight bros from way back but that's sort of cheating.

Efraqueen Juárez (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 8 September 2010 20:23 (fifteen years ago)

almost every day and I don't have roommates. Life rules right now.
