I remember every time my mom fought with my dad, I would find her later typing up a document that started "Dear Oprah." That lady wrote so many letters to Oprah and not one reply. Oprah turned my mom's life into a sad and empty epistolary novel, and that's why I voted Oprah.

i was once in the audience for a daytime talk show when i was going to school in nyc. my roommate got a block of like 40 tickets for something called "the mark wahlberg show" and we were PSYCHED, so we all went and this dude comes out:

Sally Jessy Raphael always struck me as being sleazier than many of the trashier shows somehow--why, I'm still trying to figure out.

I agree, her show had an extra layer of sleaze that even Jenny Jones would envy. I can't quite pinpoint the reason for that, though.

Loads of porn models/performers used to go on these shows to promote themselves but eventually a lot of them warned and discouraged each other from doing it because they were so often ridiculed.
Jenny Jones in particular got a bad reputation for this. The porn women were told by producers (and apparently even Jones herself) to wear the supplied (usually trashy and poorly fitting) clothing and act provocatively. If they refused they wouldn't have their travelling and accommodation expenses paid.
Some of these women went on partly to defend their work and were told they'd be allowed to do that until the show went on and tried their best to make them look like crazy sluts. What a bunch of assholes.

I've also heard Montel was not nice but don't know anything more about that.

Montel gave Sylvia Browne a weekly platform to do her shtick, he can burn in hell.

He also shills for payday loans, so make that a double burn.
