Classic: being awake 24/7 is a drug. I rarely do all nighters or have insomnia these days, but when it happens I love it. Everything is slower: perception, hearing, brain acitivity.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have not been to bed before 3 am for three months. I live on 2 or 3 hours of sleep. It is killign me but w/o drugs i can not imagine how to fix it .

anthony, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Go camping... alone.

Cryosmurf, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, right, Blair Witch solo Project. I think not.
Anthony is it a physical or mental thing?

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Everything is slower: perception, hearing, brain acitivity": by the time you're my age (41) you get this even after a FULL EIGHT HOURS PER NIGHT!!

mark s, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I dont know. Proably a bit of both. Cannot go camping. Too much to do . About this time i usually canoe for a week .

anthony, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nonstop?!? Surely you'll fall asleep the minute you leave the canoe. ;-) Maybe stop worrying about insomnia? I know loads of people who only sleep for a couple of hours a week and have no problems with it.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Couple of hours a NIGHT of course.

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Cure for insomnia in two easy steps:
1. Turn yer fucking computer off.
2. Count pickaninnies.

AP, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If i turned my computer off i would be driven insane. I cannot read because the light bothers hubby.

anthony, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You could listen to audio-books on headphones.

scott, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Am I the only person with a slight issue with the sudden use of the word "pickaninnies" on this board? Do you guys not realize that's a racial slur? Considering the drubbing given over bloody "eskimos", you'd think someone would have an issue.

Anyhow, I'm a violent insomniac. Nothing I do, not drugs, barely even alcohol, keeps me asleep. It's a nasty cycle, because it's caused extreme exhaustion due to lack of sleep but the exhaustion isn't enough to stop my mind enough to go to bed. So yeah, dud. It used to be classic, but now I'm tired of it, literally and figuratively.

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DId you know that research has shown different peopl e require different amounts of sleep> some poeple only need liek 2 hours a night! I myself get like 5 hours night. I go to bed at 2am and awake at 730 but I always nap later. I have found the thing to do during insomnia is just get up and watch cool late night TV and have a coke. Ally, I never used the word Pickaninny. You blasted tert

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally, you are NOT the only person. Keeping quiet is the only thing that has kept me civil.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought it was a racial slur but then I thought, no, otherwise people wouldn't keep using it, I must not be up on my racial slurs. Thank goodness I didn't use it myself, eh readers.

Tom, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i thought it was the reference to fucking willie wonka, but oh well...um, insomnia c or d...both, can be helpful, though most times you get fuck all done, but I've come to love some of my greatest tv infomercial friends....though it's weird, cos now tv in oz is catering for the early risers with progs like who's line and the entire series of pacific drive repeats on early in the day, and blues clues...why can't they have blues clues on at 3 am i ask you.

Geoff, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I only recently learned of "Spook" . THank you Whoopie "Useless" Goldberg

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's why I brought it up, I started to assume that British people haven't heard of the word. Though I will point out the person who I believe first used it isn't British.

Different people do require different amounts of sleep, but I don't think anyone gets by on 1 hour per night, or 2 hours. The human sleep cycle necessary ranges from 4.5 to 9 hours per night, I believe.

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There are some people called "healthy insomniacs " who get like 2 hours a night

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But they're not the norm in the least. It's genetic luck, it's like saying "Well some people have much better than 20/20 vision" and then acting like those with 20/20 are deformed :)

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

None the less I encourage all to experiment with staying up way late. Life is too short for sleep

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Margaret Thatcher apparently survives on 3.5 hours sleep a night though some might consider her mental health debatable.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thatcher made up for lack of sleep with electro-shock baths (or so I read...)

Andrew L, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

margaret thatcher was alive???? when?????

Geoff, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just know Reagan and THatcher mated, but whats their offspring?

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Erk!!!!!! [Activates 'damage control' switch] Thought "pickaninny" was merely accidental & excellent mispellung of "pygmy" (mythic elvan types), no prior knowledge of wurd. [Consults dictionary] Oops, double erk, RETRACTS WORD IMMEDIATELY, no slights intented. [Wipes brow] Fuggery!

AP, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I GOT TWELVE HOURS OF SLEEP TODAY ! FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM !

anthony, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
