I've just done it. Fuck. How do I rectify this?

I did this two weeks ago and I only realised yesterday. I rang and apologised profusely.

On the extremely rare occasion that this has ever happened, I have the excuse of time zones and the like.
Of course it's much more usually the other way around - that a parent (usually my dad) completely forgets my birthday. Even my mum forgot last year. :-(

i forgot this year for the first time - was in new york and the day was busy and got away from me. next day i woke up and remembered was like, oh, robyn, hang your head in shame. everything was fine when i did talk to her, but i felt lame and bad and the lesson is Just Don't Do This.

Oh man I got shit for *years* the one time I did this. Good luck.

My mother would kill me. It was bad enough when I didn't call her on Mother's Day one year until the evening and she gave me a guilt trip that I still feel today. Most moms aren't quite as dramatic as mine is. Hopefully yours is one of those and will not think it's that big a deal.
― master of retardment (ENBB), Friday, 17 September 2010 22:40 (fifteen years ago)
i almost wanted to give some crazy excuse like 'i was in a coma; everything's okay now' but that would've only freaked her out. and it is hard to lie to moms. i think they always somehow know. but yeah, my mom understands how busy life gets for us kids, but was still hurt a little, i'm quite sure. really, all you need to do is apologize profusely and not try to give any excuses for it, just that you're v v sorry and you love her.

for as many christmases as i can recall my mom has been giving me a norwegian photography calendar (mostly landscapes and rustic churches, sometimes kids holding norwegian flags) that she has gone through and circled, with a heart, in red pen, the dates of all family members' birthdays, which both prevents me from having excuse to forget and from claiming to have remembered on my own.
― del griffith, Friday, 17 September 2010 23:04 (fifteen years ago)
My family doesn't celebrate adults' birthdays, except, for some reason, mine.
― Christine Green Leafy Dragon Indigo, Friday, 17 September 2010 23:09 (fifteen years ago)
Forgetting a mother's birthday is the first step towards freedom from the oppressive family unit.

Phone her the next day, ask if her card arrived, and then be united in your (mythical) hatred of the postal service (I have never actually done this, but it seems a decent excuse).

About twenty years ago I didn't forget her birthday but on Christmas morning as my dad and sister opened my gifts it dawned on me: I'd forgotten to buy Mom a gift.
