Thailand and Thai people

Are there any Thai ilxors?

I work with a lot of thai illustrators through my job atm, and I'm increasingly fascinated with Thai culture - I find the script so beautiful to look at, and the people so interesting and so hard to figure out - my grandparents, who served in Singapore during the war, and travelled extensively in SE-Asia over the years afterwards, said that the Thai class structure was the only one they could never quite get a handle on...

Anyway - tell me about Thailand!

My question for Thai folk: explain them red-shirts, please. Why are people so in favour of support for the poor willing to get themselves killed to get a corrupt billionaire back into power?

Why is politics?

I love Thailand! I made a film there (and have another one, in fragments, in my studio) and have friends from there. It's def. complicated politically and historically. There's an amazing "museum of Siam" or something in BKK that does a good job explaining how/why. It's such a cliche but I found all Thais to be ridiculously polite, thoughtful and soft-spoken.

BKK is one of my favourite cities, mainly for the food

five years pass...

Went there recently (album here), and had a great time.

We spent some time there with my wife's old high school friend and her family. Her husband is stationed there, working for the AP. They just published this horrifying story, which follows on the heels of their story about slavery on Thai fishing boats from last year. Pretty harrowing stuff.
