Are Jeans Preppy? (IMO)
Are jeans preppy? Here are my thoughts.

I don't own jeans, nor does anyone in my family. I believe they are not preppy, and most of the time when someone is wearing jeans, he or she would simply look better in khaki canvas pants.

This is not a good time for someone (especially a woman) to begin creating a classic wardrobe. I was even considering writing a post called "2010, you are no 2004." Given the general capriciousness of almost all vendors, we may wonder, how do we maintain a stable look over the years?

Sounds like a female carles.

I ... I can't get over this:

As with walls, sheets are wonderful in white. A vast expanse of white is always refreshing, and gives a visible crispness.

However, the actual crispness of traditional percale sheets is not always appreciated when one is trying to sleep. A marvelous alternative is a set of white flannel sheets. Nothing feels more comforting, especially freshly laundered.

This winning combination of white and flannel is surprisingly inviting year round. Then, it is hard to beat the cotton flannel from Germany.

Given the somewhat overwhelming array of possibilities one faces when purchasing bedding, it is sometimes nicer to not have to make any decision at all.

just from this picture I get the feeling that there's at least a baseline level of self-conscious goofery to the thing, kind of like the suicide note guy lards everything with wacky titles. But, her name is really Muffy?

Philip Nunez, Sunday, 26 September 2010 22:41 (fifteen years ago)

"Muffy (A nickname given to me almost 40 years ago by the dear family friend in the boat in the J. Crew entry!)"

Whoops! well if this is a hoax, it's one with an airtight backstory.

Philip Nunez, Sunday, 26 September 2010 22:57 (fifteen years ago)

She's real.

Love how the "ribbon watchband" is just off-center enough in the photo to make sure we get to see the Volvo logo on the steering wheel.

ed chilliband (max arrrrrgh), Sunday, 26 September 2010 23:29 (fifteen years ago)

yeah she's kind of endearing. and provides a good lead on what to ironically appropriate next.

tumlbrah (dayo), Sunday, 26 September 2010 23:34 (fifteen years ago)

but it's like, this whole new world of signifiers. like it blows my mind that I could walk into this lady's house (if she's real) and be silently judged for wearing the wrong flannel pattern. or black socks with blue socks. or something.

man, i love how now that "preppy" stuff is semi-popular there's like this creepy northeastern TRU PREP reactionary force, totally rolling their eyes at everyone else's debased notion of what prep is.

it seems real and non-carlesian to me.

i like her taste generally, except for the loud pink lilly/vera bradley stuff.

808s and Hatebeak (get bent), Monday, 27 September 2010 03:48 (fifteen years ago)

YES! the loud (but overly pastel-y) pinks are her worst betrayal of tru prep values.

having taken an actual journalism class (contenderizer), Monday, 27 September 2010 03:49 (fifteen years ago)

she makes me wanna watch barefoot contessa for some reason

God, I hate those confusing times in the New Markets phase. Really tests my resolve as a customer.

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 08:39 (fifteen years ago)

you could prolly replace the brand names w/ buzzbands and this would work for a diff aesthetic.

plax (ico), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 09:00 (fifteen years ago)

My order is always shipped out immediately, the quality never wavers, and they are just very nice people with whom to deal.

is "nice people with whom to deal" correct? even if it is it's completely horrible.

Over the years, we have asked many people, "What kind of khakis are you wearing?" Most of the time, the answer is an unsure response followed by an awkward turn to look at the tag of their pants, also known as the "quarter-turn." We have been amazed at the lack of confidence in khakis, as khakis are a quintessential piece of one's wardrobe. Don't fall victim to the "quarter-turn" - let us renew your confidence in khakis. We want you to know the answer to the question, "What kind of khakis are you wearing?" The answer is simple – Jack Donnelly.

ice cr?m, Wednesday, 16 February 2011 02:03 (fifteen years ago)

This is just so utterly foreign to me that I have no idea how to respond to any of it.
