Dudes have you had Watermelon Axehad? It's only ("only") 11%abv instead of 12% but is tonnns more drinkable than the Loke. Tastes alarmingly Jolly Rancherish.

re cost v booziness: 3.5 cans of 4 loko = the same alcohol content as a fifth of 80 proof vodka. considering they only cost a couple bucks per, that beats all but the cheapest, nastiest, lighter-fluid style hard alcohol. mad cheap buzz imo. not that i've ever tried it...

I have consumed exactly one can of 4 Loko, for the lolz. It was revolting - the worst kind of buzz on both levels. I can't imagine making an evening of it (& this from someone who has put away more Sparks & Steel Reserve than I'd care to admit).

tried the grape flavor about a year ago & found it offensive. Re-engaged recently via the Watermelon after reading a lot of the posts on this thread & yeah whoever said it tasted like liquid jolly ranchers is otm & it also REALLY REALLY helps yr cause to keep it in the freezer & let it turn into semi-slush, to the degree that it constitutes basically a jolly rancher booze slurpee & then the ott artificiality is suited to a better context. However -- tried the same drill w/ the blue raspberry & it was still basically undrinkable.

my friends and i homebrewed 4 loko for new years 2011. iirc we used malt liquor, monster energy drink, vodka, caffeine pills, and pulverized jolly ranchers. it worked well--i got so loaded i just wanted to pass out sitting up on a couch, but my heart was racing so fast that i would jerk awake as soon as i started to fall asleep. basically i alternated between wanting to die and actually thinking i was dying.

this recipe seems a lot cleaner and easier than what we did.

White Claw is p. solid. Same ABV as a standard beer at 5%, 100 calories, isn’t loaded with sugar, actually tastes good/light/refreshing.

Sampled some of the other brands and they’re alright, think WC is a slight cut above. Also the Black Cherry is their worst flavor imo, wouldn’t form an opinion off that.

milo vodka soda with a lime doesn't come in a can, requires infrastructure investment in limes, sodas, vodkas, ice, et cetera. obviously this investment would result in a superior end product but when i need a low effort escape from crushing tedious realities im not trying to start a google doc

Facebook memories just reminded me of this thread's existence. Reading my old posts here ("grandfatherly advice" lol) is kind of a trip, and makes me glad I got sober a few years ago.

Two stories I never posted itt but should have:

1. On the eve of the ban, a college pal with family money drove all over the state buying thousands of dollars of original formula Lokos, which he planned to sell for $5 a can through Craigslist. Unfortunately the selling part of the plan was less well thought out than the buying part. His first customer was undercover law enforcement, and his entire stash got seized because (detail I forgot to mention) HE WASN'T 21

2. I drank FourLoko sans caffeine exactly once, before a concert at a BYOB venue on the campus of a local private university where open container rules are generally not enforced. Shows at that particular venue usually involved me sponging up all the excess B I could from friends and acquaintances who had BYO'd more than they required, and this night was no exception. By the time the concert ended and the crowd started to disperse, I was in a quasi-blackout slumped over and freezing on the metal fire escape stairs. Campus police were called, but by some miracle they took my keys and left me locked in my Kia to sleep it off, because they "didn't want to take me to jail." 1/10, extremely not recommended (+1 point for staying out of jail)
