I threw out my back two weeks ago, it was terrible. Had to call neighbors to get my son out of his crib (wife was travelling on business), couldn't get up off the floor. Finally able to get to doctors on Friday in terrible pain. Got some drugs. Dr says its related to my car accident 6 years ago and that my leg injury is affecting my back. I've been stretching as told but it still hurts. Start physical therapy in a week.

i have a herniated disk that got really bad about 4-5 years ago, but i haven't had a flare-up in a while. i notice it when i try to lift heavy things.

i basically bent down to pick up my son and felt a twinge. its been on ongoing issue for a while now, but it never got this bad. i had to crawl to the bathroom using my sons firetruck with wheels to roll myself in there.

i remember once i was in class and i had to keep getting up to walk around because the pain was radiating down my leg and i couldn't stay seated in my chair. really embarrassing.

i've had minor back problems - the physio + stretching did wonders. when i've been lucky enough to have full time employment i've taken full advantage of the chiro and massage therapy coverage. not sure how much they help - but the massage at least feels great.

ask around for a good chiropractor imo. saved my life when severely strained my lower back years ago. they should be able to straighten things out and relieve the pain until you see results from the phys therapy & exercise.

yeah, the chiro can at least provide some temporary relief.

i went over the summer and he demanded i have x-rays, which i found completely unnecessary for a chiro when its not a disc issue. So i never went back.

my chiro is an old friend of mine and he had me do that too. i don't think it's anything alarming.

mind you up here it's probably much cheaper to have that done.
I suffer from a partially prolapsed disc, which was so bad when I worked in a bookshop that my husband had to put my shoes and socks on for me in the morning because I couldn't move. If I sat in one position for more than half an hour, I would let out an involuntary yelp of pain on standing up (which makes people look at you funny on the train in the mornings). The only thing I found that worked was walking. Walking, walking, and more walking.
Oh, also the drug cocktail of an anti-inflammatory, a major codeine painkiller, and valium. That works when there's a flare up. But to keep the pain at bay, walking and more walking.

OMG it hurts to sit, stand, lie down, and basically move any direction. I am useless in every capacity today.

Any thoughts on kneeling chairs? Standing desks? My office will pay for ergonomic stuff if I want it -- what is best?

I never got anywhere w any of it? I can't stand tho bc of my feet so kneeling stool or one of those balance ball chairs would be my recommendations.

I've lately been experiencing some compression in my lower back. Not serious pain yet but trying to avoid it. Right now I'm just trying to frequently raise and lower my chair, and also get up a lot.

I have nothing to add about chairs/desks, but I've experienced back pain lately and was surprised to discover how the book _Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection_ by John Sarno (https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446557684) has become popular and well vetted in the mainstream. Thinking about checking it out, but luckily I'm in remission for the time being.

Standing desks like the ones Varidesk make only work well with good monitor arms attached that you can raise and lower in conjunction.
― nashwan, Tuesday, 9 August 2016 16:18 (nine years ago)
I need a lower desk. Why don't they make those?

I use a standing desk, beats sitting down (also for neck pain)
