I realized recently that I have this internal character voice that I hear in my head sometimes, e.g. when I imagine myself giving advice or when I imagine what it would be like to be a trial lawyer. It's this sort of hollywoodized straight-talkin new york tough guy voice, and it starts a lot of sentences with "Look," or "This is what you have to understand [SHORT, BLUNT PHRASE]"
Do other people have these?

What does your internal redneck say?

I feel like part of my mind goes "heh heh heh" when I say something inappropriate.

If I have another voice all it does is laugh like a creep, is what I'm saying.

i have a reassuring/self-help voice that tries to make me feel better, in the same way that i'd reassure other people in real life. this has led to occasions where i'll think to myself, with complete sincerity, "it's okay to be upset! i'd be upset about this, too!"

The voice in my head is my real voice, when I talk out loud I use a fake straight'-talkin' NY tough guy voice. Life is a lot more fun that way.

If I had that I would totally choke me to death.

Mine takes on the characteristics of whatever I've been struck with lately, so it'll do a Deadwood-style voice or a West Wing one. The not-me voice is always cooler and wittier than I am, sometimes I wish it would just take the hell over.

I have a calm, if slightly pompous, academic kind of voice that contextualises whatever it is I'm worried about: 'what we have here is a perfectly normal panic reaction to a new situation, blah blah'. I also have a tough football hooligan type inner me, that tells the kind of upper middle class tossers who annoy and intimidate me in equal measure to go fuck themselves, in a voice that's much more Dublin than my normal one, and is not above threatening violence, though I've never hit anyone in 30 odd years.
