I find Marebito's final sequence one of the most disturbing things I ever saw.

Marco Damiani, Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:40 (fifteen years ago)

just added a handful of them to my netflix queue. Jeez jjj really loves post-2000 horror.

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:43 (fifteen years ago)

I don't even know what qualifies as "under the radar" with ILX

da croupier, Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:46 (fifteen years ago)

this is the radar

da croupier, Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:46 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah...I don't think Tourneur's Night of the Demon is widely known, but it may be familiar here.

clemenza, Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:48 (fifteen years ago)

went with all recent stuff there because opening it up to all time would make my head explode

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:48 (fifteen years ago)

you didn't love Martyrs enough to make it top 10?

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:48 (fifteen years ago)

also cut severance and slither from my list because i figured they would be relatively well known.

xpost yeah marebito is pretty rough all the way through but yikes that ending

xxpost actually i fall into the camp that prefers inside to martyrs, also i figured martyrs was pretty well known. and duh i forgot inside on my list

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:50 (fifteen years ago)

kind of a summary of the post-2005 thread, but I really liked all of these recent films

martyrs
home movie
the signal
deadgirl
sauna
pontypool
sexykiller
embodiment of evil
imprint
end of the line

what did we think of [REC] coz I get the feeling it's reached like neo-classic status but then again so did Haute Tension and ugh what fucking sloppy garbage.

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 16:58 (fifteen years ago)

I like REC a lot actually! still think its weird that the remake was so incredibly slavishly dedicated to recreating the original (while still finding a way to americanize the danger source which is totally lame) - struck me as so lazy.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:02 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't seen it yet.

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:03 (fifteen years ago)

you havent seen the remake, or you havent seen either?

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

inside, below, and session 9 are all fantastic.

rothko's chapel and waffles (omar little), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:08 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't seen either. The only films I've seen on this thread are the ones I listed :(

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

I have an aversion to modern horror I think because so much of what I've seen is gaaaaarbage.

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:11 (fifteen years ago)

id say get REC, and then fight the temptation to bother watching quarantine unless you love it so much you want to see the same movie twice

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

Remakes are sort of the reason I hate modern horror so much btw.

mother cabrini maxwell (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:13 (fifteen years ago)

oh and also "Brotherhood of Satan" which Marco mentioned up there at the beginning is AWESOME

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:16 (fifteen years ago)

so is let's scare jessica to death

mr. mandelbrot flythrough vertigo, esq. (Edward III), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:20 (fifteen years ago)

ok so it's not worth seeing quarantine if you've already seen REC, but is REC worth seeing if you've already seen (And, in your innocence, enjoyed) Quarantine?

da croupier, Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:22 (fifteen years ago)

ehhhh. kinda not really? i think the reason for why peeps are being all creepy is more satisfying, but man the 2 are shockingly similar.

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 27 October 2010 17:24 (fifteen years ago)

"Tourneur's Night of the Demon"

Dana Andrews vs Montague R. James!
Love this movie - can't remember right now the name of the actor who stars as the warrlock, but he was great.
