Human speech - C or D?

Why do people repeat the same pointless shit all the time and justify it by saying, "I was just making conversation"! Or better yet, "I was just saying". The sound of other human beings is becoming increasingly unbearable because people abuse the privilege all the time! Is there any reason certain individuals constantly need to feel 'connected'? Are they just weak?

Dave Q, one day, are you going to blow?

Nick, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes Dave, I worry for you. Perhaps you should take up yoga, or harder barbituates or something.

Josh, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes. Communication is for the weak. Loneliness is for the strong.

Sterling Clover, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No man is an island.

jel, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All communication is a lie which cannot convey the whole truth! The path to peace is within!

I don't worry for him, I feel the same way on this issue. There are certain people I know who ALWAYS have to be making sound. I'm not talking about talking necessarily. Singing. Shrieking. Making irritating...sounds, wordless vomit spilling from some horrible vocal chord of doom. My roommate has been like this a lot the past couple days, she just like makes these sounds as soon as she runs out of things to say and realizes I'm not in a talking mood. I'm like, can't you just be quiet for a few seconds? Does noise have to constantly be emitted in this room? Loads of people are like that, they just chatter and chatter and chatter and you want to just punch them after a while of it.

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There's always non-human speech, Davo. Have you tried Klingon?

mark s, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's OK, Ally: I worry for you too. Perhaps you and Dave Q can form some kind of deadly international misanthropic alliance and somehow work to rid the world of everyone else. But then you probably hate each other too, so your evil schemes would be thwarted by infighting and the human race would live to fight another day, finding new ways to annoy you.

Nick, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'd allow him to join me and Ramon's convoluted plan for world domination, but I actually think Dave is too misanthropic even for us.

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ROyaoo! I was thinking that when I told the bank teller " Its very hot outside, moneylending cunt. "

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Did you get kicked out of the bank?

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nop, I said it very quietly, and I was in a broom closet at the time

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How did you get in the broom closet?

Ally, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maybe it was a sperm bank?

Kris, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

leave it to Kris to turn idiocy into wit

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Leave it to Shelly Long

Kris, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

WHoa I wanna see that!

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 7 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What Ally said. Some people talk until its obvious even to them that they're being ignored, then they start talking to themselves, then they start singing or humming or whistling, then grunting or belching or knocking into things just to make a sound. How the fuck do people get like this?

dave q, Wednesday, 8 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Because of the way it sounds classic.

anthony, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think a lot of people feel silence is awkward. Or maybe it's because they don't want to have to hear themselves think. :) I am lucky that most of my friends don't mind lulls in conversation, because I can't usually keep conversations going anyway. The unlucky few that do need sound resort to talking to themselves or humming or something, although I'm not usually annoyed by that.

palpable, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The best way to fill silence is with 2 words " I fucking hate you."

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's way more than 2 words.

Ally, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mike, this seems to me unarguable. Surprise me.

Nick, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Ifucking Ateyou" slurr

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You ATE us?

Ally, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Shut up slut

Mike Hanle y, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You shut up, fuckface ponce.

Ally, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

twelve years pass...

I seem to have a lot of trouble hearing people clearly. I'm not sure if others aren't speaking loudly enough or if I'm just not properly attuned to human speech.

It's the whirring in your head that drowns them out.
