j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Monday, 1 November 2010 14:50 (fifteen years ago)

gas does get stains out, origin of dry cleaning iirc

ice cr?m, Monday, 1 November 2010 14:51 (fifteen years ago)

soap and water iirc

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 1 November 2010 14:53 (fifteen years ago)

so yes i think the are suede

j. sargent & lil k3v (deej), Monday, 1 November 2010 15:21 (fifteen years ago)

suede is kind of furry, that looks more like unfinished leather or something. i dunno, i've never had anything like that exactly. maybe you could use saddle soap?

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 1 November 2010 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

still gonna rep for sno-seal once you're finished though

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 1 November 2010 15:25 (fifteen years ago)

those aren't suede iirc

deej is there a shoe/leather repair guy near you? those guys are often rad and will have the right advice and may be able to sell you an appropriate cleaning product.

maybe it is nubuck? get a proper foaming cleanser + brush from actual shoe care place, then follow up with conditioner + nubuck/suede polish. don't use soap OR water, it'll dry the leather out and they'll crack.

just1n3, Monday, 1 November 2010 15:48 (fifteen years ago)

eek

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Monday, 1 November 2010 15:49 (fifteen years ago)

lol

ice cr?m, Monday, 1 November 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah. I'm sure there are, like, absorbent pastes that would lift some of the oils or sugars or whatever out of the unsealed surface? But I'm not sure exactly what they would be for this situation, so better to check w an expert.

I've got ten bucks. SURPRISE ME. (Laurel), Monday, 1 November 2010 15:56 (fifteen years ago)

paint it black imo

dayo, Monday, 1 November 2010 16:01 (fifteen years ago)

the photo looks like unfinished leather. If it is, get some saddle soap and a damp cloth and work the soap into the leather, creating a lather...concentrate on the stained areas but lather all over. Then wipe away the lather and let the shoes dry. Hopefully the saddle soap will take care of the stains: you'd be surprised. Def. oil your shoes though when you're done, it'll protect the leather from nasty drinkies :)

I have repeatedly heard bad things about saddle soap, is the thing. I'm not totally clear on what it's really good for...?

saddles

ice cr?m, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:53 (fifteen years ago)

saddles, soft leather shoes, leather jackets...we used it a lot on outlr leather lounge suite, it's good stuff. Just gotta use it sparingly. But it depends on the leather ultimately...lambs leather or expensive goods maybe not, but I havent seen it do damage in my experience

Okay, so I may have to eat my hat a little. Interwebs say saddle soap is bad news. So..shrug. We used it a lot growing up, never saw the down side but I guess proceed with caution maybe? Ugh. Confusing.
