Missed this when it hit UK cinemas a while ago. Heard mixed things.

It's definitely neither of those things (x-post).
It's very unique, occasionally ballsy, often pretty average.
I genuinely can't quite understand the furor it's caused - even at the West London showing I went to (six months ago, at least!) there were a handful of walkouts and groans. But it's mostly tame, except for a couple of graphic sight gag scenes played for laughs.

Saw Bad Santa cos I thought Ghost World was hilarious. Maybe i need to see it again or something, but i remember being totally not into it. Plus Dan Akroyd's Santa in "Trading Places" owned "Bad Santa" and that scene only went on for like 5 mins.

Had to skip the screening (have to skip almost all daytime screenings -- the curse of having a real job).

I can't wait for some tsk-tsking by GLAAD or some other professional matrons

Saw this whenever it came out in the UK. I remember it being pretty rough around the edges but loving it in places. Ewan McGregor was so touching -- had everyone else forgotten he could be this good?

Glad it finally got a US release. I'm kind of amazed that it got financed in the first place.

Will finally catch it this week.

I would love it if McGregor got a best supporting actor award from somewhere for it, but I guess that's unlikely.

both performances were great imo. Carey worked his 'wacky' physicality & acting chops to great effect, and yes, McGregor was absolutely golden. i appreciated how Russell's sociopathy & the situational hopelessness somehow never become trite or overly flippant (as it seems with a lot of gallows humor i've come across lately)

pretty funny, liked the way they messed with your expectations re: the Tragic Homo ending

this was very good. got a pretty bad rap, in my opinion; not funny enough, I suppose, or serious enough for some people. although the continual escape/scene changes near the end were hysterical. really overlooked movie.

Still haven't swallowed this one, but on the basis of Crazy, Stupid, Love., I buy that this movie could be great. Not that there's likely to be much crossover between the two target audiences. (Not just gay/straight, but romantic/skeptic, too?)

Just watched this and really liked it. Both JC and EM were really and it reminded me of how good Carey can be when he's not being annoying. It was a lot of fun.
