reminds me of the time they had to withdraw that 'marcello carlin' model

Fury! Outrage! Let me guess what kind of newspaper The Daily Record is.

StanM, Saturday, 13 November 2010 12:55 (fifteen years ago)

They did have Slag many years ago after all (now renamed to Snarl…while Snarl himself just seems to have disappeared)

Americans naming things after words they actually use in non-derogatory ways shocker

StanM, Saturday, 13 November 2010 16:09 (fifteen years ago)

so wait, spastic is treated as an offensive term with you people?

forksclovetofu, Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:29 (fifteen years ago)

means 'tard'

ice cr?m, Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:33 (fifteen years ago)

On June 29, 2007, Ubisoft of France pulled one of their games called Mind Quiz: Your Brain Coach, for referring to players who did not perform well at the game as "Super Spastic" which can be construed in the UK as being offensive.

calling somebody "spastic" in the states is like calling them jittery; spaz is interchangeable with dweeb or geek
it's not considered an offensive term over here.
i gather the US equivalent would be "cripple" after reading that wiki

forksclovetofu, Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:52 (fifteen years ago)

yeah yeah when I was young in the USA, "spaz" basically meant "hyperactive" or "unruly" and "retarded" meant "stupid" or "silly"

David Allah Coal (sexyDancer), Saturday, 13 November 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)

now colloquially in the US, "Having OCDs" means being neurotically careful and "ADHD" means being too busy to watch a movie or read a book, etc.
