do you ever fear that you're going blind (or deaf or um, mute)?

I think I see the outlines of my vision blurring more and more recently, like the little white dots that you're supposed to see when u stare directly into a lightbulb, somewhat like that around the edges of my point of view. It's bothering me mentally. Since my eyesight has been dramatically declining ever since I had to get glasses when I was 9, and since I'm in my early 20s now, I just wonder whether or not if it continues at this rate I'll still be able to see anything in a few years.

Of course, not staring at this damned machine screen 24/7 might help.

I don't really know if yo ucan just go mute like that, you know, but since I'm an equal opportunity person when I ask a question, at the risk of being unfair I had to include it

five years pass...

About a year ago I noticed that I wasn’t able to hear as well as I used to but it wasn't that big of an issue. A few months ago my hearing slowly started deteriorating and in the last week or two loss has been happening rapidly. I can barely hear out of my left ear right now and my right is getting progressively worse. Me, being a complete coward had to have my girlfriend force me to get it checked out after she realized it was getting worse (for some reason I pretended like there wasn’t an issue). I thought I had a virus or something as I started to run a mild fever but it turns out that it is likely noise-induced hearing loss. I have a slew of tests scheduled for next week so I'll know more soon ... but currently I am completely at loss.

It was the first time I’ve seen my normally happy and excessively friendly doctor be grim. It was not encouraging. I now regret my time with various Ann Arbor noise bands and being involved in Detroit techno.

I’m terribly depressed about all of this. Anyone have experience with this type of issue? Any encouraging stories?
