Rat Plague! Stop Picking on the Fast Food Eaters!

There has been a rat population explosion in many of Britain's cities. I have noticed this myself in Oxford. But on the news they are placing the blame fairly and squarely on people who eat on the street! Have you ever heard anything so utterly bogus?

Ok, so I'm not saying that rats *don't* feast on a few kebabs, chips ect ect dropped by street eaters, but the amounts involved must be tiny in comparison with the HUGE amounts of food available to them by chewing through the plastic sacks (sometimes no chewing is required, as the bags split so easily) outside both homes and business premises these days, as municipal refuse collectors are too b. idle to empty bins anymore and expect us all to put our rubbish in a flimsy plastic sack! It's a classic case of pick on the little guy and blame the young hedonist, the person out on the street enjoying some food after a few beers, rather than the big local authority who can do no wrong!

um... people create litter and leave it around, scavengers come to pick it over. end of story as far as i'm concerned.

("create litter and leave it around" referring to more than just ppl in the street obv, i mean that sounded a bit harsh. sorry!)

yes let's. I was half watching the Beeb report this morning - isn't it the dumped leftovers rather than the odd chip or dollop of chili sauce that happens to fall that's the problem? (no excuse for litterbugging as proven by science on ILE recently)

it would be interesting to see whether areas which boast that marvellous invention - the wheeliebin - suffer from rats as much as places (most places) where plastic sacks are used. I saw a cat eating a chicken carcass in my next door neighbour's front garden which it had ripped from the plastic sack witing for the binmen. If a cat can do this so can a rat. I'm not condoning dropping litter. I'm not even saying that dropping leftover food doesn't contribute to the problem. What I'm angry about is the way the newscaster picked on ppl eating on the street with no mention whatsoever of the ludicrous way in which rubbish is collected in many of our cities.

So says Angry Of Oxfordshire!!!

The rat population of the tube has increased by 20% over the last two years, put squarely down to in increase of litter caused by NO BINS ON THE TUBE. Not only that but the rats are using the litter not just for food but to build nests out of and redimentary technology. Only the other day I saw a rat scooting along the track on a canibalised Hot Wheels car which must have come from a discarded Happy Meal. Beware, they will be making nuclear weapons soon.

I was going to ask a question today about Fast Food in England after that Roger guy on ILM said something "oh you wouldn't catch ben sherman shirted, mcdonalds eating lads listening to spacemen 3".

I mean the Irish stereotype of this er....."person" is pretty much the same except minus McDonalds. And I always hear it from English people aswell, how did McDonalds get into the equation?

I'm not criticising, I just find it funny. Do people not eat McDonalds in England or is this just idle snobbery, YOU MCDONALDS EATERS YOU!

rats are a sign of a vibrant civilisation

Vibrant = humming here?

RickyT, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

...of civilization, anyway.

Colin Meeder, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

People who drop food on the street should be forced to pick it up and eat it. Young hedonists are a blight on civilisation anyhow, fuck 'em

dave q, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

B-b-but fucking them just feeds their hedonism.

Pete, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Can't people just catch the rats and make tasty treats from them? Then people wouldn't have to buy fast food, they could just catch dinner and take it home.

besdies, rats = way faster than kfc, they can even outrun a wild kebab
