Olivia Tremor Control - the long interlude bit on Dusk at Cubist Castle

Barbara Morgenstern - one of the songs on Fjorden features a fly buzzing near the microphone.

You can hear them in the background on The Texas Campfire Tapes by Michelle Shocked.

Can't remember the name of the track right now but there's a song on Santana's "Caravanserai" album that has crickets or cicadas on it. That record is probably the longest ever vinyl lp, over 50 minutes iirc.

Look away, Tim.

Er, Pink Floyd, Ummagumma, studio half, one of the songs is prefaced with a fly buzzing around, it gets swatted then the song begins properly. Maybe its the one with the ridiculously long title, Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a lly c, or something.

tim doesn't like pink floyd?

Several species of small furry animals gathered together in a cave and grooving with a lly c, or something.

grooving with ally c?

there are insect noises on lampchop's bugs too. and on the end of mogwai's stanley kubrick? someone can confirm this, no doubt. NOT no doubt. again.

Look away, everyone!

"Roof is Leaking" - Phil Collins

Jeff W, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

That record is probably the longest ever vinyl lp, over 50 minutes iirc.

Philip Glass' Powaqqatsi is 68 minutes on a single LP. They really didn't give a tinker's cuss about vinyl quality in the late 80s, did they*?

REM's "You Are The Everything" starts with chirrupping night- creatures.

(* They = Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball).

insect noises ... on the end of mogwai's stanley kubrick? someone can confirm this, no doubt

There is a noise at the end of Stanley Kubrick reminiscent of an angry hornet buzzing between the speakers, but its some kind of effect, not real.

Jeff W, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if things are going to take this turn, what about Roy Harper's "When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease"

Which I think John Peel wants played at his funeral. Or maybe that was John Walters (& it was)

Its the heat - I get so confused.

David, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Bizarrely, this has already been a thread on ILM

N., Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Bizarrely, there are surprisingly few overlaps between the two threads.

David, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

N. - I am not very observant, I know, but isn't that the first time you have done that in ages?

Feet comfortably well under the table at work now?

David, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The way I remember it Daf, Walters told Peel he would play it on the "John Peel In Memoriam" radio broadcast (assuming Peel checks out first, that is).

zebedee, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)
