"pizazz" feels like the most complimentary/least irony-pervaded of these ATPIT[at this point in thyme] — like if someone told me I had pizazz, or had done something with pizazz, I would be genuinely flattered — whereas "snazz" is maybe too close to "snark" for my liking, and the rhymingness of "razzle-dazzle" just overeggs the pudding

love how razzle knows which ILX poster to anagrammise

I like "zazz" too. it has a simplicity about it. three of the alphabet's final letter, one of the initial. ABAA structure. "zzazz" with its first z cruelly lopped off, or "zaz" grown unbalanced.

snazz : fashion/style :: pizazz : charisma :: razzle dazzle : showmanship

i told rufus to put on a new shirt today and he said he didn't like wearing it because it was the kind of shirt that people told him he looked "snazzy" in. and he doesn't like that word because its archaic. this was today right after i started this thread! weird.

scott seward, Sunday, 21 November 2010 19:51 (fifteen years ago)

what can he wear that is bloggable i wonder

"snazzy is a term that people abandoned 30 years ago. only weird people with no sense of style say it." - rufus

scott seward, Sunday, 21 November 2010 20:06 (fifteen years ago)

boy's 7 and has historiographical awareness of the mutability of vernacular - mad, mad zazz imho

As long as he's not into Zsasz all's good.

EZ Snappin, Sunday, 21 November 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

i thought jon stewart made up "zazz"

"razzle dazzle" has an undercurrent of the grift to it.. cf. "dazzled" = "blinded" i.e. "give em the old razzle dazzle and they won't even notice"

with "snazz" and "snazzy" i fear rufus is right, currently feels irredeemable as a sincere compliment

sometimes it sounds sweet coming from a respected older person (usually a relative)
