so im thinking about taking advantage of one of the black friday deals to buy a display that i could hook up to a mac mini i recently inherited and use as a "media center" for movies, music, netflix, etc. but i dont really know anything about this stuff and the internet is kind of unhelpful so
- is there an appreciable difference btw. LCD displays and edge-lit LED displays? from what i can tell there isnt really, and the LCDs run a lot cheaper
- is there any reason i should buy an LCD TV instead of an LCD monitor? i dont think i really need the tv tuner since i dont watch much tv and if i wanted to start id probably get cable. the monitors seem cheaper than TVs mostly.
- any brands u guys like? i am looking at samsung, sony, panasonic and vizio since they seem to consistently get the best ratings

do they make cheaper monitors past 32"? at some size point I think it's actually cheaper to get a TV/monitor combo.if you have a dark enough room, a media projector might be cheaper than a TV, but if it's that dark maybe you don't need edge-lit LED.my understanding is many of the brands source their LCDs from the same factory.

consensus among ppl i know that recently bought tvs is that vizio is a good bet, esp for the money

i dont think i can afford to go much bigger than 32" and that's probably only if i can get a really good deal

if tuner isn't important, you might luck out and find people dumping otherwise perfectly fine TVs on craigslist for such things as broken tuners, no audio, etc...

feel like monitor would be the best bet

saw a bunch of 32" TVs at target for about $300. you might need an hdmi adapter from your imac to TV though.
