Do you mean the salty green things or madcap adventures?

N., Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

They killed Mr Lemmon you know?

Mr noodles, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

What!?! No way! Not Mr.Lemon! NOOOOOOOO! (who is Mr.Lemon?)

I like capers, in the sense that N. describes, I'm not sure what the other sort is.

Taking sides: capers or japes?

Dan Perry, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Just don't forget to rinse 'em (better yet, rinse then store in sealed jar full of olive oil)

Matt, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I don't like the salty green blobs.. but I just love COMEDY capers!

HEHE, MANDEE!, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I rate them as highly as I rate pesto.

rainy, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

at first i thought so do i , then i realized rainy was being mean.

anthony, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I guess maybe I don't like things that taste too self-confident.

rainy, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Excellent when used in a really good puttanesca sauce. (The little green salty ones, that is.)

lyra in seattle, Thursday, 1 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I love em and eat em straight from the jar, three or four at a time. One of those tastes (like lime pickle) that you know should be disgusting but is strangely nummy.

Really good on a pizza with pepperoni, anchovies and extra garlic, a little something I call "the Love Magnet".

It's like you read my mind.

Hee hee! MADCAP!

Dan I., Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I like what rainy said.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Tracer Hand, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

if that's how capers are gathered i've suddenly lost my appetite.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 2 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'm still in the dark.

Ally C, Saturday, 3 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

capers are bladder stones from giant wolves

Ron, Saturday, 3 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

don't listen to him, ally! capers are um, some kind of flower bud (jasmine? i think i read that somewhere) which are pickled or salted or possibly both and put on pizzas and in pasta sauces. each tiny one has the acidity of an ENTIRE pickled onion concentrated in its tiny green form, so if like me you go for that kind of thing, you will love them. if not however you'll probably spit them out and swear and need a pint of water.

six years pass...

I made some spaghetti last night without any sauce -- just some mushrooms, spinach, red bell pepper, a little shredded Swiss cheese, and olive oil. It was decent, but then I had the genius idea to add capers. So fucking good.

jaymc, Monday, 20 October 2008 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I was going to say that capers improve everything, but I once made the mistake of eating some salted capers, on their own, straight from the jar. Not so good

Ismael Klata, Monday, 20 October 2008 18:52 (sixteen years ago) link

My friend made some cream pasta sauce that called for capers. He was so fond of the things (who can blame him?) that he poured about 6x the required amount into the sauce. It ended up tasting like hot dogs. It was the most expensive hot dog-flavored thing I've ever eaten.
