as a horrible internet cynic, I first suspected that a lot of these images were the author's own (great!) street photos with the google streetview logo superimposed thereon. but they're probably legit, a-seein' as the guy (Jon Rafman) has his real name attached to the blog & is exhibiting this stuff at an art museum. he has an essay about it here.
I just wish the Hipster Puppies guy would follow suit & promote his blog as Conceptual Art rather than cheapening it with a coffee table book.
