Going out the night before thanksgiving C/D

This is a thing,right? like when you go back home for Thanksgiving and hit up the local bar where a bunch of people from High School are there doing the same thing.

never done it myself but it sounds like something that would be in movies so i say Classic

used to go all the time in my 20's. Now in mid thirties have no interest.

one good thing that comes out of this is when you see some old friends and decide on a place to meet up the next day for a quick w33d session

It's a tradition with my friends – one of the few left as we all turned thirty. I probably drink more on the night before than on Thanksgiving.

This is s thing where I'm from too but I've never done it. I didn't go to the HS in my town so it would be me showing up and seeing a bunch of ppl I haven't seen since middle school.

We usually go out Xmas evening since as Hispanics Christmas Eve is the bigger deal.

when i started to see my sister at these events i stopped.

I don't fly home for Tgiving so this is not a thing for me -- plus not friends with anyone from that town anyway, wouldn't be going out there at all.

But I used to date someone from NY state who could easily drive home for holidays and his friends all did this.

I would like to organize an outing one year where several friends and I dress as pilgrims and hit a bunch of dance clubs and get burly and start a bar fight somewhere.

i'm not going home this year ;_; so i'll be kickin it with my girlfriend's high school buds.

We do this with the friends we usually spend Thanksgiving with.

I usually get together with a longtime friend of mine, since we have birthdays on the 26th & 27th of November, right around the holiday. We're going out tonight.

I am always confined w/ my 4 relatives. Tonight we watched The Kids Are All Right (except for the toddler).

however, where they live now is not "home" anyway.

this. and anyway, i haven't hung out with my high-school friends in yeeaaars.

Just hung out for a while with a college friend back in town this evening, but high school, nah -- haven't ever done that, and my parents long ago moved from where I went to high school anyway.

This is a thing back in Michigan, but I never did it b/c we always drove down to family holiday at my late aunt's victorian house in SE Ohio.

not home for thxgiving, making this the third year in a row, but first where i'm an appreciable distance away from family and most friends. currently getting a VERY late start on the pie i'm bringing to my friend's parents' house tomorrow (dough still needs half an hr to chill)

I am still very tight with a few of my high school friends. Tonight, one old grade school friend and his wife made dinner and invited a few people over. I drove to their house with someone I've known since first grade. He's really more like a brother.
Actually, these people are all pretty much family at this point. While we sat around a fire in their backyard, we acknowledged how lucky and rare that is. I got back to my parent's house in the suburbs before midnight, though, and only had three beers all night.

This was a rite of passage during college. I'd drive up to LA to see some awesome show happening before T-day (remember Bardo Pond and Meat Beat Manifesto the most.) then I'd drive the entirety of Sunset Blvd westward late at night back home.

This is totally a thing where I'm from in England, but on Christmas Eve as we don't have a TG. Usually spend the day in a nice pub in a different town then come home and face everyone from school in one of the locals.

well, my bus got in an hour early so i killed some time at a bar downtown.
awful scene! i drank two beers and a shot of whiskey before my sister came to pick me up.
there was a live band.. all covers.. third eye blind, violent femmes, blink 182, nine inch nails, and more that i am forgetting right now.

fyi i h8 most people i went to high school with.

just got back from seeing "tangled" motherfuckers, yeah you wish you had my life.

My high school class does a meet-up in a sports bar during the holiday season - generally on the day after Christmas, except someone this year has scheduled it for January - and half of the attendees are there in an ironic capacity to count the number of O'Doul's drinkers relative to last year and to LOL at cheerleaders-turned-cougars. There are also a bunch of us who meet up outside of this scenario and most of us have known each other since grade school.
