i assume most people on here are part of a social group of some kind, right? i was talking to a friend of mine the other day and we were talking about the concept of how especially in big cities, there are usually some other large-sized social groups which you're tangentially associated with, maybe through school or mutual friends or maybe they're even people you were once closer with but have moved away from, but you never spend time interacting with them, maybe because of different tastes or lifestyles or attitudes, and maybe there's even a rivalry. i dunno if i've noticed it or if any of you guys have experienced it, my friend says he's felt it before, it seemed "interesting", etc.

when i was in college, this girl me and my bros were with was dating some literal ex-con from another city about forty miles away. when he visited with his friends, something happened that led to an actual brawl in the yard of a house with bottles being broken over peoples' heads and all kinds of mayhem. it was kinda terrifying and arrived seemingly out of nowhere, but there was a little weird tension and rivalry going on beforehand.
