nine years pass...

Found the plotting really weak, the film dull.

Just watched this the other night, kind of agree. I got caught up in the suspense during those scenes when they had the old santa/elf hostage and he was being all catatonic and creepy, but none of it really paid off & the end was kind of a letdown.

yeah i remember this as like "cool premise/setting, never gels further"

The film totally shows as being expanded from a short’s comedy premise - it would run better at 65 minutes, if that had been a commercial length for a feature in 2010. But it’s a really fun Xmas horror flick with some great photography / locations, and does well at telling its story visually, knowing or hoping the majority of its audience will be without Finnish fluency.

I enjoyed it and was looking forward to showing it to the kids. I like the tone of it, from memory, that it really teeters between suspense and odd small town comedy, kind of like Troll Hunter. Definitely more interested in seeing it a second time than I am seeing Krampus a second time, though that was fine too.

yeah, I watched the short after, which is a one-joke film, but you can do that.

also I found the Spielbergisms v strange given the frequent lack of narrative propulsion
