My mind was kinda blown when I went to the fair and learned turkey legs are a big booth food now.
Pro: yum it's myoglobin
Con: All the connective tissue in the entire world

Rest of the turkey is not worth messing with imo.

my go-to sandwich meat tbh

tangelo amour (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 November 2010 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

I was totally addicted to this one sandwich that had turkey + avocado + bacon but it was totes the avocado that made me a junkie.

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Friday, 26 November 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)

It's a cheap and easy protein and I eat my share, but I'm not much of a fan. I should switch to peanut butter.

Unfrozen Caveman Board-Lawyer (WmC), Friday, 26 November 2010 02:58 (fifteen years ago)

thanksgiving leftover sandwiches are one my favorite things to eat in the world

tangelo amour (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 November 2010 03:03 (fifteen years ago)

I have to say, "1776" was so long and had so many songs, you'd think one of them would've been about how the turkey should be the national bird, but the closest thing they did was some extended metaphor about incubating the egg of democracy.

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Friday, 26 November 2010 03:04 (fifteen years ago)

If only they had chosen the turkey... then we would live in a universe where there are gifs of crying turkeys in front of the WTC.

Grim Viceroy Tales: Hit the Trail… to Flavor! (Viceroy), Friday, 26 November 2010 03:07 (fifteen years ago)

prob gonna get some sb's for hating on turkey on thanksgiving but I hate hate turkey

if people really liked turkey as much as they act like they do on thanksgiving wouldn't they eat it more often throughout the year? (I know, some people do. SOME.)

iatee, Friday, 26 November 2010 03:12 (fifteen years ago)

no.it's fine and I enjoy it, but nowhere near a favorite.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 26 November 2010 03:17 (fifteen years ago)

dunno about favorite, but there is no wrong time of the year for hot turkey sammich imo

straight old fashioned, virgin (another al3x), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:02 (fifteen years ago)

eating turkey & cooking a whole turkey are v different things. i'll eat turkey sandwiches dozens of times per year, and probably a handful of times get a platter of carved turkey. it is a good food. not a favorite, but yum.

not everything is a campfire (ian), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:06 (fifteen years ago)

i actually, no joke, love turkey.

and then peaced (get bent), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:11 (fifteen years ago)

Brined & smoked turkey is WIN. Leftover turkey stuffing & gravy sammiches are great.
The rest of the year I don't like it much. We eat turkey burgers a lot but it's not my meat of choice, not at all.

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:13 (fifteen years ago)

i've been trying to eat less red meat this past year and my turkey consumption has gone way up.

and then peaced (get bent), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

turkey burgers are a kind of evil imo

_| ̄|○| ̄|○| ̄|○ (dayo), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:16 (fifteen years ago)

not the ones i make!

and then peaced (get bent), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

that may be true! I've only had crappy frozen turkey burgers

_| ̄|○| ̄|○| ̄|○ (dayo), Friday, 26 November 2010 04:17 (fifteen years ago)

A B C, Friday, 26 November 2010 04:34 (fifteen years ago)

Mr Veg makes slow-cooked turkey burgers on the barbecue, they're pretty awes

Unfrozen Caveman Board-Lawyer (WmC), Friday, 26 November 2010 05:19 (fifteen years ago)

okay it looks like mr dayo made my same turkey point in the other thanksgiving thread but I hadn't read that one I swear

iatee, Friday, 26 November 2010 05:27 (fifteen years ago)

There are lots of nicer meats than turkey meat.

The New Dirty Vicar, Friday, 26 November 2010 10:14 (fifteen years ago)

Turkey steaks are great, or burgers.

Turkey roast alone would be okay but Christmas dinner elevates it.

I see what this is (Local Garda), Friday, 26 November 2010 10:44 (fifteen years ago)

turkey is definitely my least fav meat by far

just sayin, Friday, 26 November 2010 11:05 (fifteen years ago)

Turkey mince is a decent substitution for minced red meat IMO.

a fucking stove just fell on my foot. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 26 November 2010 11:25 (fifteen years ago)

deal with this: if turkeys werent associated with thanksgiving nobody would actually raise turkeys to eat, theres a reason why they stuff better tasting birds in them to make them more palatable

all you turkey lovers, tell us what you love about turkeys

_| ̄|○| ̄|○| ̄|○ (dayo), Friday, 26 November 2010 13:07 (fifteen years ago)

It is true, no-one eats turkey in countries that don't celebrate Thanksgiving. He's got a point there.

it's not thanksgiving anymore, you guys don't have to pretend

My mind was kinda blown when I went to the fair and learned turkey legs are a big booth food now.

This is no recent trend iirc.

RIght – I hadn't been to a fair since 1998.

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Monday, 29 November 2010 04:09 (fifteen years ago)

i just shredded up the leftover turkey and made cochinita pibil style tacos. yum-o.

Question: What iconic Thanksgiving food would you get rid of?
Answer: Twenty percent of chefs would prefer to get rid of the turkey altogether.

Maybe so, but this is not seen in the UK, and was a "WHAT is THAT???" when we were in Florida.
