Frank O'Cotsoe (haitch), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:06 (fourteen years ago)

Nothing sinister iirc. I was bored one afternoon and decided to catch a bus to Warrandyte to buy video games, you got on the bus and we shot the breeze, the end.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:22 (fourteen years ago)

haha

i bought the first 'game' i've purchased all year on the weekend: nintendo ds art academy, lol

Frank O'Cotsoe (haitch), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:23 (fourteen years ago)

I actually had a very bizarre dream last night - in it everyone died, all at once. Like, a bomb went off I think? Anyway we all "died" but our minds/souls just popped into new bodies in a new area or plane or something. Like... the scene reset, basically, and we could start again, with the same minds, but as new people in a diff place.

A bit like Dark City I guess? Except not all gothy and confusing. Just... man, it was weird, but in a good way.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:25 (fourteen years ago)

And then the scene resets started happening at random like in that Futursama episode with the random time skips and it got annoying.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:26 (fourteen years ago)

On the topic of Futurama, I saw the first 2010 ep last week and loved it. Did not expect that.

aa (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:35 (fourteen years ago)

Oh the new series is really on form. In fact the first couple of eps are the weakest! Tho I need to re-watch a few. The one where mom turns eveyrone into "eyePod" drones I didnt care for, it was a misstep but the rest was tops. Way better than the movies.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:37 (fourteen years ago)

Still need to see the holiday special.

Frank Lloyd Webber (Trayce), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 00:38 (fourteen years ago)

ACE.

fwiw we now have a full HD telly and 720p copies of all the new eps and they look utterly gorgeous. This show is the most attractive going atm.

The evil people at your local Murdoch tabloid have a fun tool to check out how homophobic your electorate is: http://www.news.com.au/national/gay-marriage-data-interactive/story-e6frfkw0-1225961445853

Culture: only gays have it (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 02:22 (fourteen years ago)

I got 62% for Grayndler, huzzah for progressive inner west types!

Culture: only gays have it (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 02:23 (fourteen years ago)

The first and only time I have knowingly clicked a Murdoch link in ~5 years. My electorate is 61% yes, 20% bigots and 19% apathetic.

'Marriage is between a man and a woman' is a euphemism for 'poofs are revolting' btw.

aa (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 02:28 (fourteen years ago)

Mate, I've got nothing against poofs but they should be shot then burned and then their ashes need to be buried twenty kilometers under the surface of the Earth. It's for the good of the children.

Culture: only gays have it (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 02:32 (fourteen years ago)

I got 62% for Grayndler

more like gayndler, amirite

Frank O'Cotsoe (haitch), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 02:34 (fourteen years ago)

Going to soapbox for a minute. I can't believe this point is even up for discussion. The only people who want to prevent same-sex marriage are bigots. There is literally no excuse to get in the way of people minding their own business.

The Labor politicians' standard response is always 'I believe marriage is between a man and a woman' (which (a) isn't an answer to the question in any shape or form and (b) is straight-up bigotry) and then they try to prove they're not bigots by going on and on about all the rights they've given to gay people, which is exactly the same as saying 'blacks can work and vote and own property JUST LIKE US but they still have to ride at the back of the bus'.

I am so angry and appalled by this that I won't discuss it all with anyone anymore, because if I discover I'm talking to someone who opposes same-sex marriage I will immediately cut them out of my life.

aa (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 02:44 (fourteen years ago)

basically i think labor is going to change policy (espec now the faceless bros have decided they need to get more progressive) but 'due process' (ie: doing it at that conference) 'must be followed' - p lame, but that's the way the party works i guess

Frank O'Cotsoe (haitch), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 03:07 (fourteen years ago)

indeed

labor would pretty much have to give me a faceful of cockney urine before i would support libs tho

I know it's part of the democratic process etc etc but I still cannot believe any 'free' country has to jump through hoops of this magnitude in order to remove some pretty straight-forward discrimination.

Yeah, weird also that Labor got in on the strength of not being John Howard and immediately abandoned its new supporters by taking a prejudiced stand on so many issues. Good that such a large chunk of the party (inc. the NT branch, surprisingly) now publicly supports marriage equality, and good that Penny Wong has also stopped being a dick and started saying what she actually thinks.

btw same-sex marriage wasn't expressly illegal until Howard went out of his way to make it illegal so yeah, bigoted Labor > big-L Liberals on a good day.

aa (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 03:16 (fourteen years ago)

Also the 'conscience' vote is ridiculous. Essentially MPs go to their electorates to find out how many of the people they represent are bigots and formulate their official position accordingly. v clever of the Greens to introduce this conscience bill now, let the country ruminate long enough to reailse how (a) indefensible and (b) fucking stupid the debate is, then introduce the second bill calling for a change of the law.

aa (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago)

I know, Gillard emerges as an atheist and friend of the working class, wins leadership and immediately sticks her head up her own arse.

aa (Schlafsack), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 03:22 (fourteen years ago)

yeah as much as i hate to say it, it really seems like all she has going for her these days is not being abbott

In fact if she had run against e.g. Turnbull there's no way she would have won that election imo. Abbott's so unsupportable that the fact that he almost won says more about Gillard than it does about him.

xxp yeah I saw that, about Apple not responding to the strong AU currency. To be fair Apple's one of the better players in hardware terms (goods here aren't as ludicrously overpriced as many other companies' offerings) but there's no excuse at all for the itunes racket. I buy apps but I buy the gift cards when they're heavily discounted.

Head goes goes goes (Schlafsack), Thursday, 24 February 2011 04:42 (fourteen years ago)

It annoys me how arrogantly they all act about price, 'well that's what we're charging and we don't care if you're being screwed, get used to it'. It's like they don't know bt exists.

Head goes goes goes (Schlafsack), Thursday, 24 February 2011 04:43 (fourteen years ago)

Speaking of bad apples I have a bag of apples from this week and a bag of apples from last week and I don't remember which is which. Have started eating one and am afraid I will die.

emusic is a good example of raeg whgen it comes to licensing. Thank you, show me all these awesome albums you wont let me download. Thats marvellous.

berk psychosis (Trayce), Thursday, 24 February 2011 04:46 (fourteen years ago)

i just don't like the inconsistency - particularly when both labels involved have their non-licensed releases available, but when a record is licensed between the two labels (slumberland/fortuna pop for example) it is unavailable to australia through either label, which makes fuck all sense

racing up the fuck charts (electricsound), Thursday, 24 February 2011 04:48 (fourteen years ago)

i think i am confused by what you said!

racing up the fuck charts (electricsound), Thursday, 24 February 2011 05:57 (fourteen years ago)

there is music i will never ever buy because the dipshit local licensee don't want to make it available for a reasonably priced download

that other local licensees get digital as part of the rights doesn't nec mean that Spunk do in the cases you notice - I have exactly 0 idea whether it's down to Spunk or not, was wondering if you know for sure that it *is*

(also it's possible that Spunk do have the rights but don't have the infrastructure to handle it in a way that makes economic sense for them? again idk anything abt local specifics of this, I hate "buying" digital and have done it rarely and mostly direct from the artist)

yesterday's twat (sic), Thursday, 24 February 2011 10:38 (fourteen years ago)

yeah look tbh i don't know the specifics of what they do wrt digital. i think they stand out (p0pfr3nzy also frustrate me about this) as a label that via their local licensing mean my choices are reduced to physical cds or itunes, neither of which i am interested in. seems bitterly ironic that local licensing actually makes something more of a pain in the ass to buy than less...

anyway i realise my hobbyhorsing on this is p dull so

racing up the fuck charts (electricsound), Thursday, 24 February 2011 21:26 (fourteen years ago)

racing up the fuck charts (electricsound), Thursday, 24 February 2011 22:34 (fourteen years ago)

I have happily handed over my dime direct to bands for digital content recently. I feel weird buying CDs now - I just dont play them. But if little bands like Home Video can get my money then all the better.

berk psychosis (Trayce), Thursday, 24 February 2011 22:47 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah, CDs just take up space. You're paying for a licence to use the music rather than the music itself so not having a physical copy isn't too big a deal. Where I draw the line is when they charge more for the digital version despite the complete lack of manufacturing, distribution, warehousing &c; there's no justifying that.

Head goes goes goes (Schlafsack), Thursday, 24 February 2011 22:51 (fourteen years ago)

http://www.itnews.com.au/News/249230,iitrial-a-green-light-to-disconnect-pirates.aspx

iiTrial: A green light to disconnect pirates

Today’s judgement by the Full Bench of the Federal Court could clear the way for internet service providers to disconnect subscribers accused of copyright infringement.

The majority ruling in the split judgement handed down today gives internet service providers no absolute protection over the actions of their subscribers.

The judgement also determined that, should the film industry improve the way it delivers infringement notices and pay for ISPs to vet them, it would be a “reasonable step” for ISPs to disconnect customers accused of infringement in these notices.
