how many of these directors have been 'coasting' during their last few movies!!

Stanley Kubrick. That caricature is <3

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 04:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Wait. Am I voting aesthetically on the coaster-representation of the director, or my favorite director from the selection shown?

Ugh.

I'm overthinking this aren't I.

need to impressive a girl? (Z S), Wednesday, 1 December 2010 04:31 (thirteen years ago) link

I interpreted this just like the second poster--I thought it was going to be a bunch of directors on auto-pilot. Like...well, I don't know; Scorsese is the first name that comes to mind, but he does try. Strangely enough, there was just a Coasters poll on ILM. How can I buy these? They're great.

clemenza, Wednesday, 1 December 2010 05:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Was just thinking what a nice Christmas gift these would make ... and then I saw the selection. I guess there's probably not much call to rest your beer on a cartoon picture of Josef Von Sternberg or Jean Renoir or Russ Meyer.

Lynch

I'm almost considering it.

your ire would probably be better directed at whoever is making and selling these things

Nah, don't worry, I can take the heat. These are my very 16 favorite directors of all time, and when I saw that by chance someone had made coaster caricatures of all and were selling them as a set, I knew I had to make a poll. And of course, any list I post simultaneously becomes ilx canon (an authority codified in the recently passed ILX Accord of 21st Century tastemakers - it was ratified on COGH so I assume everyone saw it). Now I'm off to come up with a new canon and look for appropriate coasters
