THE AFTER SCHOOL SPECIAL et al. (Cliches that have completely lost their cultural context yet stick around for quite a while afterwards)

I have never seen one of these. I'm reasonably certain that the last after-school special aired quite a few years before I was born. And yet I'm pretty certain that sometime in the next month, someone within my listening distance, maybe on the radio or on tv or somewhere is gonna mention an after-school special as a punchline and, y'know, the laugh track will cue or whatever.

Sure they're dying out, but very slooooowly. Any others?

JUST THOUGHT OF ANOTHER ONE:

The Sizzler.

On the verge of extinction, sure, but there's bound to be someone who brings up "The Sizzler" as the go-to place of bountiful fast-food or whatever. Are they still around? Didn't they die out sometime in the nineties?

There's a book store in Toronto that has a few box-sets of four After-School Specials for $10 or something. I considered buying one for laughs, but haven't done so yet.

It's one of these (there are a few):

the "tonight, on a Very Special Episode of _____" reference still gets some play, i think.
