I still love this stuff, I just love the look of clean, simple, quirky ink. Like I want stuff that is like a Jason comic which moves:http://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/living%20and%20the%20dead%20comics%20panels%20Jason.jpg

Obviously far from simple (and I think there is more than just drawing involved), but I like William Kentridge's stuff:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1sPLXMg1BQ

Dunno if this counts? Crusader Rabbit! first animated series on TV, by Jay Ward who later did the Rocky & Bullwinkle show.Apparently they had no money for this so the cartoon was more like narrated drawings, where they moved the pictures themselves or panned the camera to add movement.

get the feeling a jason cartoon would be done in CG like persepolis or that charles burns one.
(i'm imagining charles burns locking himself away for a month to prove it can be done by hand, and the french CG team spits out the same result in 5 seconds and burns just throws up his handsand goes, OK you win.)

He has a blog that is totally crazy. Right now he is probably getting a rectal hernia about the new Yogi Bear movie. What he is doing professionally, idk.

Original post reminds me a bit of the silent Paul Terry cartoons, most of which were done in like a week or two by just him? I think. Youtube examples are all shit at the moment.
I like the following cartoon, "The Temperamental Lion." This lion has loads of personality and he carries the cartoon almost entirely on his own. I kind of like the flip-book herky jerkiness of it, but it might look a little different at a higher frame rate. There's a musical number! The failed attempt by the hyena to explain his joke is very funny to me. The fight scene has some good character acting. I would've loved this cartoon as a kid. I suspect I would've loved Crusader Rabbit too. I'd never seen that before.

John K did, in fact, get a rectal hernia over the new Yogi Bear movie. His blog is great; it's one of my favorite things on the internet, especially when he's fully in the mode of let-me-tell-you-how-it-useta-be. He wants to teach. He wants the world to throw up when a new Disney movie comes out.
