if it is still there , go to the great escape used record store. Classic.

It just closed recently. :(

Go to Pancake Pantry, but get there before you're actually hungry, because there's typically a pretty long line.

re: Great Escape

Grimey's is actually even better, and it's still open.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 25 December 2010 22:19 (fifteen years ago)

Ugh so sad it closed

Yeah, I bought A LOT of records at Great Escape when I lived there.

I only found out it closed by reading a thing in EW about Taylor Swift going record shopping there (they mentioned it shut down not long after that).

As mentioned before, Grimey's is really good. The Great Escape location in Madison may or may not still be open, but it's never been quite as good as the downtown location was. There's also a store in East Nashville that some friends have said is good, but I've never been and can't remember the name.

Stay AWAY from Phonoluxe. The selection is pretty good, but the prices are completely wack.

Oh, one more food thing: East Side Fish, home of "the crunkest fish sandwich" in Nashville. It's basically just a huge slab of fried fish on Wonderbread, but it's damn good.

Oh good news! The downtown store has actually relocated: http://www.thegreatescapeonline.com/bwaytribute.html

You can admire that one building at night and think, wow, it really does look like Batman!

Also, Loveless Cafe for ham.

also lawrence records on broadway. they have all old stock sealed stuff and a shit ton of 45's. You sift through tons of crap but you find some gems. at least i did. i found some copies of a little eva 45 and bought all five of them and immediatly sold them for twice as much when I got back to knoxville.

anything other than record stores that i oughtn't miss?

See what's playing at the Belcourt. That's a great place to see a movie. (And then go to Fido.)

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 28 December 2010 04:59 (fifteen years ago)

at Tubb's record store on broadway there is an amazing amount of cool books about country music stars, despite there being a serious lack of records.

fido is great so i second that idea.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 January 2014 20:52 (twelve years ago)

i guess it is famous or something but prince's hot chicken was pretty fuckin good

adam, Friday, 17 January 2014 21:17 (twelve years ago)

I don't enjoy hot/spicy foods, so I've never been. People who do seem to swear by it, though.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 17 January 2014 21:21 (twelve years ago)

I prefer Hattie's to Prince's for hot chicken.

Their sides are so much better as well.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 17 January 2014 21:48 (twelve years ago)

Also, I really don't have any food allergies but the strangest thing is that after I eat Prince's Hot Chicken, every single time about 20 minutes afterward I sneeze hard like 3x in a row. Every time! I feel fine before/after the sneezing. It's so weird, been happening ever since I was a kid.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 17 January 2014 21:52 (twelve years ago)

i have tried adding dunes of cayenne pepper to purchased non-hot fried chicken to no great success. will add hatties to the list for next time im in yalls fair city

adam, Saturday, 18 January 2014 01:20 (twelve years ago)

Some day I'm going back to Nashville and I'm going to take a tour of the United Record Pressing plant up there.
