'Battle Royale' vs 'Massacre at Central High'

Thought most interesting thing about BR was the character of 'Kiriyama' - referred to, interestingly, as a 'transfer student', also taller than the rest and with dyed blonde hair as well as being a little antisocial. I wonder what that was supposed to mean? ('Kitano' admits "The game was better with Kiriyama in it" though) I liked how Kitano sent himself up by [SPOILER ALERT!!!!] revealing his eponymous character to be a weirdo pervert Japanese-style at the end

thought BR wasn't as good as the portrayal i had in my head of what it was going to be like but then some of it i loved - the two transfer students were brilliant and the fat kid at the start and the technical kids

i was lucky enuff to get 1 of the limited t-shirt prints tho

i am a big fan of japanese women i think they either fall in to the catagory of "foxy as hell" or "hmmm nope no way" and there dress sense is amazing

"Massacre At Central High" gave me nightmares when I was 8. I still cringe when I think about diving into a pool (or having a threesome with my two bitchy friends, haha).

The transfer student is the one who's come along for fun. I think he's more plot device than metaphor. Has anyone here read the book?

The bit I loved was the cute woman enthusiastically hyping everything in the instructional video they were shown - I thought that was hilarious. Two of the friends I was with didn't like it because they thought it failed to be sociopolitically realistic.

BR is the bomb. Kitano is the man. BR couldn't even get released in the U.S. Then again I've never seen nor heard of MCH.

I haven't seen Battle Royal yet, but I'm happy others are aware of Massacre at Central High. The film's use of the high school as the setting for a revolution allegory, along with the wierd woodenness of it all has kept the film with me ever since I caught it at 3am on tv several summers ago. Some parts are extremly amateuriish while others are effectively creepy (transfer student running along the beach to the strains of the awful sweet folk song over the credits).
The basic story for the high school satire Heathers is almost completly cribbed from MACH.
I must check out Battle Royal now.
