Well?

Archel, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Or IQ vs EQ, if you like.

Archel, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

both are RUBBISH (i am depressed, can you tell?)

katie, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'm quite logical, so I suppose it's head. And, I'm not that emotional, so I guess it's not heart.

jel --, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I try to keep a balance between the two. I wouldn't want my entire life to be run logically, but it's good to do the Sensible Thing sometimes

Caitlin, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

(next: skin vs bones)

mark s, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Feh. What a question for a Monday morning. I choose neither as I have a stonking great big headache and I can't choose my heart because I am scared of it conking out at any time within the next two seconds pretty much permanently. I think my heart rate is really fast. I should stop eating salt. So if we have to go for any body part, I think I would go for toes.

Sarah, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

what about 'nads

dave q, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I don't like those very much either, today. Try plying me with alcohol. Alcohol = kemmer (hmmm pick the person who haf been re- reading Ursula LeGuin this w/e).

Sarah, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I agree with Katie. I am unbelievably hacked off today.

RickyT, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

You know those quizzes that ask you to rate the qualities you look for in a mate in order of importance? I always used to sneer at classmates who would state that being caring and thoughtful was more important than a mighty intellect. I just could not conceive of going out with anyone more stupid than me. But if I had my time again I'm not at all sure I would go for the cerebral, logical (for 'logical' read 'emotionally stunted') intellectuals who tempted me so much in my youth...

Archel, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

why katie down? katie not like monday.

I preferred Heart to Heart (as it was v funny when Mrs H went temporarily blind and nearly went into acid swimming pool), and never reaaly liked the Head to Head (preferring the previous round Supermatch which much better, though Terry Wogan would bitch about it all etc)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Not you as well, Starry! Simply everyone's at it (well, you, me and ktee anyway) (also: new Earthsea book soon, wooooo!)

RickyT, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

NB. I am also having a horrible day so far and my tolerance of too much of EITHER head or heart is pretty much at nil, having been exposed to the worst excesses to both already this morning.

Archel, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

OF both, that should read. Grrrr. (The typing's the first to go.)

Archel, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I read in the Observer mag yesterday that if you are decapitated you are still conscious for 20 seconds (this was proved by an exceedingly dubious experiment involving the French Revolution & guillotine). Yuck. Whereas if your heart was ripped out I wonder how long you would last?

Emma, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Wow, like I'm sending out maximum love vibes to all the grumpy people of ILe.

jel --, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

blimey starry i too am reading The Left Hand of Darkness! could it be that Ursula Le Guin makes you depressed (nb i do not really believe this). cripes sinclair towers is going to be THE PITS tonight then isnt it. i'm going to bed early.

katie, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

anyone else lose lots of sleep last night? i am knacked.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Yep. Slept very badly indeed.

RickyT, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

First day in new office today! If anyone here has mailed my work addy IT IS NOT WORKING (as per sodding usual) but don't bother cc:ing to the other address as now we are so open plan I won't be able to check to read it until office is clear he-hem :)

Ursula LeGuin = grebt grebt grebt - but now I have to go for lunch so more on this later!

Sarah, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I slept okay for the first time in a week.

jel --, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I slept my usual deep untroubled sleep last night UNLIKE FRIDAY when due to a ridiculously inflicted back injury* I could not sleep a wink and was almost yelling in pain and was therefore in a world of grumpy on Saturday.

*I was laughing so hard in the pub I did my back in. How stupid is that? Must find less hilarious chums.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oh dear. I went to the Tate Modern with my mum on Saturday and as we were mooching around I saw a pic of some bloke with about 3 cocks (unfortunately not enormous glass ones) and it nearly set me off again. I am very concerned that I will now be afflicted like the little boy who lost his smile in that Heidi thread and will never be able to laugh hysterically again.

Emma, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

my Mum didn't appreciate the Sarah lucas room *at all*

she liked the Cordelia Parker and the map of the UK that was messed up though.

chris, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I am in a great mood today - and for those of you who have seen me on romance threads - its head all the way baby.

Pete, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Emma: Did you see the video installation of the naked guy jumping up and own?

jel --, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I am happy to report a measurable lift in my mood brought about by a) Alan, b) sunshine, and c) enrolling a new student here called EMIRI BINGO. Indescribably pleasing.

Archel, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I have seen the naked man jumping before. I should just add that it is not the nakedness/cocks thing in itself that is funny (well actually I suppose that too...), it is the positioning of them in the wrong - but oh so right - places that is funny. I guess you had to be there.

Emma, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Tell me where is fancy bred
In the heart or in the head

Or something close to those words. LeGuin = way cool, mang. I hear some of the folks behind the LOTR films want to do the Earthsea books. That works!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Archel: cha! (adopts cute pikachu stance with hand back over shoulder) i assume that's the big coXoR pic.

Do I have to be the first to stoop to saying "Give me head any time"?

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Fancy bread can be found in Borough Market on a Saturday morning. Very nice too.

Tim, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

TIM ARE YOU FANC Y?

mark s, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No, danc y.

Tim, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

As unofficial adjudicator I would have to say that Pete made the head joke first albeit in a slightly more oblique way. Unless it was not intended to be a joke even obliquely in which case just ignore me.

Emma, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oh my god a film of A Wizard Of Earthsea would be the best thing ever. Please, please, please let this be true.

RickyT, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

but WHO will be playing Ged?? NOMINATIONS PLEASE!

katie, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Donny Osmond

jel --, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

RickyT, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

mark s, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

MARK S MUST ALSO GO!

katie, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Can we have Dick Cheney playing the dark blob?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I'm giggling like a chimp today and I don't know why.

Graham, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Graham = DUBYA!

Dan Perry, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

The strange and excellent Bristol rock band rather than the very soft female light metal band every time.

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

"Alone" was one of the greatest singles of the 80's!

jel --, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

But worked best in a cover by Robert Forster.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

a question: should I read the Hainish books before it before I read Left Hand Of Darkness or does it not matter?

thom, Tuesday, 6 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Thom: listen to your heart.

Colin Meeder, Tuesday, 6 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

my body's saying "let's go", but my heart is saying "no". my head doesn't seem to have much of an opinion on the matter.
