Dead Pool 2011

Let's do this.

Rules are generally the same as in previous years.

Post in this thread a list of 15 celebrities or other notable people. If you'd rather e-mail me, that's fine, but please post in the thread that you've done so, just so I can keep track.

I'm not going to be a total stickler about notability requirements, but please try to be reasonable. If someone doesn't have a Wikipedia page at the very least, I'll probably ask you to choose someone else. Also: humans only.

As usual, points are awarded based on the formula (100 - [age at death]). So picking Willow Smith (at 10) would get you a lot more points than picking Jack LaLanne (at 96), were both to die.

One new rule for 2011: You must be able to post on this thread to participate. I bow to Dom's peculiar skill at this morbid parlor game, but upon reflection, I think it's only fair to keep the contest to currently active ILXors.

Please post your lists to this thread by January 8. No lists will be accepted after that date. If someone dies before Jan. 8, only the people who have already submitted lists will be able to collect points. You may also revise your list at any time before Jan. 8; after that, you'll be locked in.

Lastly, I will be posting everybody's final picks to this Google spreadsheet and also updating the leaderboard there as the year goes on.

Good luck!

I was laughing at the 2010 thread--I think it's a great idea that I'm too superstitious and/or squeamish to participate in. I was even taken aback earlier today when I heard a psychic on the radio predict that Obabma's children would be kidnapped this year.

dom's (non-competing) list, w/his permission:

Kinda annoyed that Avi Cohen couldn't hold on another few days, but them's the breaks I suppose. Anyway, I'm posting this here now so I stop fiddling with it [via masturbation gags]. Think there's some weaknesses there, but I reckon it's a team that's going places.

Stefano Borgonovo - Perennial pick over the past few years, but Carlo Ancelotti did an interview a few months back where he was all "yeah, he's actually dying now". Gotta be weird for the people who have to put together his highlight career video packages, as they're basically all the passes that lead to the goals in Roberto Baggio highlight vids.

Michael Dokes - If you map the history of the Rocky movies onto real boxing, Michael Dokes is the first heavyweight champion whose reign vanishes. Anyway, he then went and mugged someone at gunpoint or something and now he's got about three months to live via liver cancer. Owned much?

Harlan Ellison - It was either him or Dick Dale for this spot, and idk, I kinda fancy the health chances of a teatotal surf rock legend other than this rapey motherfucker.
Aretha Franklin (captain) - Her surviving 2011 would only bring heartbreak for meeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Zsa Zsa Gabor - If she makes it through 2011 I'll give you the money myself.Remember when she turned up in that episode of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? Yeah, that wasn't funny.
“Superstar” Billy Graham - His body is apparently trying to force his liver through his stomach wall, which I didn't know was medically possible. Gonna miss him turning up to "discuss wrestling" on American TV politics shows though.
Michelle Harte - Yeah, OK, morally this is kinda iffy.

Christopher Hitchens - This is the one that's gonna hurt, but you kinda feel it's "what he would have wanted".
Bob Holness - Can I have an RIP please Bob?

Mick Karn - Pretty much as close to a 2010 lock as you're going to get. He was the bassist in Japan, who I think were the band that did "Fridays I'm In Love"
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - Dunno. Something to do with Arabs I believe.
Brian Lenihan - Actually still pulling in a full work shift despite his terminal illness, very much in the same way that the late Patrick Swayze did. Although whereas Swayze brought us some of the most beloved films of the 80s, Brian Lenihan managed to cost Ireland its sovereignty. I believe his corpse becomes France's personal property.
Princess Lilian of Sweden - People who are "really into" European royals are some of the most fucked up cats imaginable.
Nat Lofthouse - Bolton Wanderers' second favourite son, who will presumably die in outrage at how poorly Bolton Wanderers #1 son was treated by those Indian chicken guys.
Rajo Devi Lohan - World's oldest mother. Should lead to some fantastic Daily Mail "thinkpieces" when she goes.
Tom Lubbock - Chief art critic for the Independent who recently found residenc6y a challenging installation of malignant cells in his frontal lobes.
Yitzhak Shahmir - Between this one and Sharon, I just feel like Israel is taking the piss with its former leaders' longevities.
Audrey Totter - Was in The Postman Rings Twice. Me neither.
Eric Tovey - aka 1980s midget pro wrestler Lord Littlebrook. Lost both his legs to diabetes, which when you're 3'11 in the first place just feels like sarcasm.
Diana Wynne Jones - Wrote that Takeshi's Howling Castle book that was turned into a movie a few years back.

Kinda want to change a bunch of my own, but they'd mostly be repeats of what others have made and would only cancel out scores. As the 2007 champ, I'll play the odds a bit more loosely.

I think karma's on my side anyway since I took Joni Mitchell off my list.
