It only turns out that the Bush family and the Roosevelt family, who are of the same line, are genetically related to Alexander the Great, who, I think it's around 300 B.C., plundered this very area-I'm talking about Egypt, what we call now Israel, down to Babylon and across to India-this whole area I'm talking about, the Bush family and the Roosevelt family are related to him, genetically.

Just can't stop fucking with Egypt.

iirc 9 tenths of everybody alive is lol genetically related to Alexander the Great

Icke is such a despicable moron. I wish I cd clean my brain of the little bit of knowledge I have of his existence.
― Pashmina, Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:01 (fourteen years ago)
The first time he appeared on Wogan in his purple shellsuit was one of the best TV moments ever.
― nate woolls, Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:15 (fourteen years ago)
Anyone else imagining this in Stewart Lee's voice?
― trishyb, Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:19 (fourteen years ago)
Not so much a moron, more mentally ill/deluded. Even on that first Wogan appearance, he was clearly completely out of contact with reality.

xp try imagining Eddie Izzard saying that during one of his rambling monologues where you're nodding your head going "yeah yeah that makes sense", but then you suddenly realise that he's been talking cod shit for five minutes.
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:27 (fourteen years ago)
I'm not really a fan of car-crash TV. When I first saw that Wogan appearance, a couple of days after it aired iirc, I didn't even know who the guy was TBH. I saw some doco about him on TV a few years ago, during which he appeared to be horribly self-important - they showed the clip again and it just seemed sad and pathetic.

Thing is, Icke and Alex the Grebt have got kind of interchangeable heads. Thinking they both bought the same model from whatever shop it is in lizard world.

DO U SEE?
I remember seeing Icke on Wogan and being kind of amused for the first minute because I thought it was a joke (I did know who he was). Then when I realised it wasn't a joke it just became really uncomfortable. But I can't quite figure out why I find him a bit sad but bear him no ill will, when I'd like to push (similarly deluded celebrity) Gillian McKeith down a well.

Back in the day, American conspo/ufo theorists seemed much much more IDK exotic and weird/"out there" and interesting that Icke ever did or could, although this being before 9/11 and moonlanding conspiracy levelled the whole lot of them down into grey, tedious mono/tony/mania.
― Pashmina, Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:37 (fourteen years ago)
I already knew a bit about Icke before Wogan. He was a goalkeeper, then he worked for the BBC as a sports presenter, during which he seemed normal enough - a bit dull if anything. Then he was off the TV for about a year, then suddenly he was on Wogan apparently out of his mind. I watched the interview live, and the audience were just laughing continuously, while Wogan himself was actually embarrassed and probably felt a bit sorry for Icke. It certainly seemed as though Icke was now a very different personality to the person that Wogan was expecting to interview.

Icke is only the tip of the iceberg when you start reading into these kind of grand conspiracists tbh. I guess I just find him a bit more tragic because I remember him from his presenting days - I guess it would now be like Jeff Stelling giving it all up to prove the moon landings were faked.
― progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:41 (fourteen years ago)
I think I find the guy despicable and do bear him ill-will because like all latter-day conspiracists, his spiel distracts, even if it's in a small/tiny way, some ppl's attention away from IRL bad stuff to some ridiculous fantasy that has little or no bearing on reality, it's something that just consistently annoys me.
― Pashmina, Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:41 (fourteen years ago)
Only knew Icke previously from the records he made with Tina Turner.
― O Permaban (NickB), Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:42 (fourteen years ago)
dude is a coded anti-Semite and magnet/encourager for the deluded and vulnerable, yeah he is irl despicable but in a grand and creative way, so he's at least one rung down from fucking mediums who prey on the bereaved
― Shanty! Shanti! Shanté! (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 2 January 2011 13:59 (fourteen years ago)
Controversial TV is an amazing channel btw but contra-indicated for depressives or medium to heavy drug users.
― Shanty! Shanti! Shanté! (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 2 January 2011 14:00 (fourteen years ago)
What do you do when someone you IRL know a little turns out to be an Icke follower? Unsure how much to put that person on a mentalist mental list

sorta wish there was an american equivalent of him...like if instead of torturing dogs, michael vick had showed up on fallnn barefoot and wearing a pastel-colored suit and taught us that 9-11 was a hologram engineered by cheney's mid-tier alien friends and that fabric softener is the new gatorade or something
