My distant ancestors came to this country in 1847 as part of the Irish diaspora immediately following the Great Hunger, so, in a sense I am carrying on in their footsteps (disregarding the fact they came by ship) by having never returned to Ireland, except to visit, briefly, and thus I may be said to be "on" diaspora, I suppose, much as one may be "on" sabbatical or "on" furlough.
Why do you ask?

An old friend of mine, who shuns Internet communications to the point that I had completely lost contact with him, just invited me to Diaspora. Right now I'm confused by the whole affair.

Oh damn! Dude just posted last week sometime that he was leaving the Diaspora team and now he's killed himself.
