The movie's "title song" was recorded by The Dudes Of Wrath, which was composed of KISS' Paul Stanley and producer Desmond Child both on vocals, Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell and Guy Mann-Dude on guitars, Whitesnake's Rudy Sarzo on bass guitar, and Mötley Crüe's Tommy Lee on drums. Also backing vocals by Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and Kane Roberts.

Mangrove Earthshoe (herb albert), Thursday, 13 January 2011 01:15 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah I don't know if it's valid, but it's accurate:

One of his signature numbers, "(The Man Who Shot) Liberty Valance," written by Mr. Bacharach and Mr. David, was recorded for the John Ford film of the same title, but it was not used in the film. Mr. Pitney later said in an interview that he was in the studio about to record the song when " Bacharach informed us that the film just came out."

Does "Theme from A Summer Place" count, or would the movie had to have been called "Theme from A Summer Place"?

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Thursday, 13 January 2011 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

The Liberty Valance song was what was called an "Exploitation Song", which basically was a song that shared a title w/a new film. When the song was jailed on the radio or a jukebox, it acted as an ad for the film. Bacharach/David wrote bunch of them, including "Wives & Lovers" and "The Fool Killer".

If Grease (Is the Word) counts, then surely Theme from A Summer Place does.
