i taped the premiere and made it as far as when summer glau called him by his real name and he replied "IM THE CAPE!". I stopped it and immediately deleted it from my dvr.

Maybe I'm just mean, but the psychological damage this dude is inflicting upon his son in pretty much every single episode so far, from his whispered litany of all the ways the men in his family have beaten the shit out of and/or killed people throughout history while cradling his infant son to showing up outside his fire escape masquerading (POORLY) as a fictional character in an attempt to be reassuring that so far seems to be causing the poor kid as much emotional trauma as Snuffleupagus did to a generation of anxious American children, is just the funniest fucking thing

DJP *IS*...the Shawl.

ok now you are winning me over xpost

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:41 (fourteen years ago)

this show would be about 3 million times better if it was just Summer Glau snooping around and hitting dudes who look like metal bassists upside the head with frying pans (aka "the most enjoyable action sequence of the series so far")

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

terrible, even the villian CHESS looked like a douchebag. Although each time i saw Max Melini i couldn't help shout out Keith Davids lines from Platoon "March in Tennessee, sniff the pines, sniff that cross-mounted pussy down by the river...hot damn!!"

Moonlight Graham (chrisv2010), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:43 (fourteen years ago)

The Cape's mentor and the little person who beats the shit out of him during training sequences are great, too (and really, can you ask for anything more from prime time television than extended fight scenes where a little person beats the snot out of Vinnie Jones?)

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:45 (fourteen years ago)

I also like that they are basically just making up the backstory as they go

also Summer Glau's Mercedes is fucking bad-ass

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

Waiting for the UK remake starring Martin Clunes.

In the pilot episode, the buildup through scene where the heroic cop gets discredited and chased is actually really, really interesting, but when he escapes and is captured by bank-robbing carneys, the show really does take a detour into UH

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)

There is a lot of unintentional humor here for that crowd imo

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

also said bank-robbing carneys manage to convince the city's last clean cop to give them his security credentials so that they can rob a shit-ton of banks in approximately 15 seconds; this involves (you guessed it) a lot of punching from the aforementioned angry little person

the entire show seems to be a writing exercise for a hypothetical Unintentional Humor 101 class

like jon said in the other thread...as a heroes follower and sticking with it to the end i had high hopes. only to turn it off.

plopson (Aerosol), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 19:15 (fourteen years ago)

at this point, I only want to watch it because I want to see how much more terrible it can become

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 19:16 (fourteen years ago)

KBP is quietly fuming somewhere

I find this show to be delightful! Everything about it is so absurd and awful, it reminds me of some cheesy 80s action show like Manimal. And what is with the guyliner the lead guy wears? It is very very distracting.

Also: Summer Glau is a terrible actress. It has to be said.

I watched the pilot episode and afterwards was like, "Uh, what just happened?" Terrible, terrible, terrible. Everything just seemed so rushed and perfunctory. Like, this bit from the writeup at The AV Club is right on point:

Vince is trying to look around, and someone tells him that some dudes were murdered there “last night.” It looks like it's exactly the same time. The Cape has serious issues with time, like last week with its montages of indeterminate length. Were they three months? The length of the montage itself? 500 years? Who the fuck knows?

xp "Acting" is not what I think people watch Summer Glau for.

you think you're cool, but you read ick (Phil D.), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

I was gonna say...

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 19:53 (fourteen years ago)

i liked summer glau in dollhouse

O_o-O_0-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 19:55 (fourteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Okay Mena Suvari was kind of great on this.

The lead actor continues to be one of the most perplexing men in Hollywood, in the sense of "how the hell did he land this part"

DJP, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 21:27 (fourteen years ago)

Also Summer Glau was awesome on "Firefly"/"Serenity" and has been basically unbearable in everything else I've seen her in, but I basically endorse/support any and all "Firefly" alums in their artistic endeavors because that show was badass.

Actually I watch a disturbing number of shows that feature "Firefly" alums (Castle, The Cape, Chuck... fuck V tho)
