stress delaying menstruation?

I have been reading a bit abt this on the net but it's not satisfying me - I crave the more personal input regarding this... my period has always been really regular ALWAYS. I've never taken preg prevention pills + there is zero possibility of me being pregnant (I don't believe in that Mary shit). And I'm more stressed/distressd over a longer time than ever before. I understand the delay can only occur at ovulation which shld've been abt 2 weeks ago or maybe 3 now - I just wld like to know if anyone knows or suspects this has happene to them. My breasts have been killer sore for a week now and I'm so anxious. ENCOURAGE ME TO START FLOWING THAT YUMMY STICKY BLOODY STUFF PLEASE!!!

IANA doctor, but I used to work at a professional organization for obstetricians and gynecologists.

1) Gynecologists will tell you that stress can delay the onset of menstruation. Mind you, in my experience they sometimes have this backwards--the late period is a *cause* of stress.

2) It is not unusual for a period to be delayed, even if the woman previously has been regular as a calendar.

oh yeah, stress totally delays your period. (the stress of my move delayed my last one by two weeks.) and stressing out about stress not delaying your period only makes that 'watched pot never boils' syndrome worse. so, uh, the only way i can encourage you to flow is i guess to encourage you not to think about it. LOOK! A CLOWN! (better?)

Stress has also been known to bring one's period EARLIER, too. Grrr. But yeah, what the others said.

Erhm.. this has happened to me from stress. Go to a doctor, and they can give you a pill to take to bring it back- you don't want to just let it go, because amenorrhea  (fancy medical term for it) can lead to bone loss. The last thing you want when you're stressed is a factured arm or something. Hope that helps...

Happened to my girlfriend a few months ago, so I have to say it's true.

Black cohosh helps too. I've had enough stress in the past year or so to vouch for that much.

Oh Halo, I really sympathise. This month I was 12 days late for no apparent reason with really sore (but also, on the positive side, rather bigger than usual) breasts. Stress was the only thing I could think of, either that or my body just decided it was time to have a laugh. Normally I can tell to the day.

Loosing caffine and salt might help with the bloating and bad mood. Although this is a case of do as I say, rather than as I do, because I am very much "I have PMT, I want chips and tea with lots of sugar, LEAVE ME TO IT. RAAAA."

I have not bled for many years, but my nose bleeds all the time, which helps releive the tension.

this is not a good thing for me, it's one of the worst - I like my breasts to be as small as possible.

Normally I can tell to the day. me too. Never been a week late (like so far) but I was a week early once when I moved cities. Don't know if that was to do with increased light (came after 3 weeks the next time too) or the shock of drastic change.
thanks for the help everyone.

blimey this happens to me ALL THE TIME. and the worry about it leads to more stress, which just leads to being later... i have never had regular periods. if you're sure you're not pregnant then i wouldn't worry too much, as nicole said black cohosh will help, also raspberry leaf ISTR is good for this kind of stuff. try and set aside a time for relaxing, maybe even try some yoga and stuff (NOT to force your body to start menstruating, as this is possible after a lot of practise but DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED) as it really does help to clear the mind, focus yourself and make you a lot more aware of your body.

exercising usually helps to bring it on if it's late

How old are you? If you have always been regular but you start having from now onwards delays from time to time you could have polychistic ovaries (not sure about spelling)...
