But why?

martika, Sunday, 11 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it depends. on such things as how nicely one can deliver criticism, how the person you are criticising is feeling, and what your motives for criticising are.

di, Sunday, 11 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

and why? because its not nice to hurt peoples feelings and sometimes a piece of badly delivered criticism can discourage a person from doing what they enjoy and are good at doing.

Everyone's gone to the moon

Obviously it's a ridiculous philosophy for a critic of any kind. It also shouldn't apply when you're talking about politicians. Otherwise, I'm generally polite to everyone. The only people I'm scathingly honest with are the handful of friends I know well enough to know they won't be offended by the truth.

Christ i couldnt say anything nice if i tried

George Gosset, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

saying "nice" things exclusively = actively NOT saying a bunch of bad stuff = passive-aggression.

if you can't react to criticism without sulking don't live in intelligent society at all!! dishers-who-can't-take-it are MUCH worse than the alternative. i should know.

I like saying mean things as a form of comedy. Most people I encounter understand this, but every now and then I get into trouble.

Quite right, Mr. Perry. I...I still hurt inside. *stumbles off for a weep*

di, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

most of what i said earlier only applies if who you are criticising is a friend. if someone you don't know doesn't like what you do, big fukkin deal.

Mr Noodles, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Like, "your inane lack of sensitivity probably means that you are a very happy person"?

martika, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)
