What is the value of a PhD degree in Business Management?

I propose to apply for a PhD programme in Business Management. But the most important thing for me is the value of this qualification after 3 to 4 years if I do not enter the academic career. Any opinion? Thanks!

I would say, why do a PHd in anything if you don't wish to have an academic career? What career are you aiming for?

I imagine that you'd have no problem getting a non-academic job with a Business Management Ph.D. Especially since the skills are more practical for a non-academic employer than a Ph.D. in, say, Political Science or English.

Though why not just get an MBA, if you don't think you'd want to become an academic?

I am 29 years old and already have a Master degree in Construction Management. My goal is to switch my career to business area specialised in strategic management. I do not intend to get a second master degree such as MBA. So PhD in Strategic Management would be my choice. Is my career plan feasible?

Fellow grad in the department around the time I came in got her PhD solely for kicks (and could afford to). She works as a travel agent.
