It's the most old-peopletacular confectioner I can think of! Maybe the most old-peopletacular store in general.

They're so Utah!

My grandma flips her lid for this shit! She thinks it is the height of luxury!

I like it because the longer you stay in there, the more free candy they give you. It's ridiculous.

This will be the thread where I find out they secretly funded the murder of George Tiller or something.

You're so into old people lately? What's up?

Also these are DELICIOUS. They're so Utah though? I thought See's were a California thing.

Ha! Wintertime in Arizona, I guess? Plus, most of the people I talk to at work all day are v v old.

ENBB, you are OTM – looks like it was started in Calif. I guess I think of both See's and Utah as 3/4 of my grandma's psychology, so there's the connection. They have a lot of See's stores in SLC...

my aunt worked at their factory in Hawai'i after graduating from Berkeley around '70. looks like it was quite the life

My mom's family was pretty poor, ans as a child and she said she'd treat herself by saving up money for bus fare to the mall in SLC and buying a cheap chocolate lollipop + seeing how many free chocolates they'd give her. Then she'd go to designer brand stores and ask if she could have one of their shopping bags to carry her schoolbooks in "so it looked like I could afford nice clothes even though I sewed my own."

My gf sometimes goes to the nearby See's retailer on Market Street and buys nuts and chews to send to ppl.

Fwiw, Abbott, candy is often associated with teetoalling cultures. Much of English chocolate making, for example, was started by the abstemious.

Best thing at See's is the apricot delights.

"Apricot buttercream with chopped apricot and toasted coconut"

My husband says they sound like poison. He refuses to try one.

More for you, right?

My mother-in-law is obsessed with their Bordeaux chocolates - brown sugar + buttercream covered in chocolate.

They're pretty nice but omg sooo rich. Abbbott otm about staying in there for a long time, they'll feed you a pound of chocolate if you stay long enough!

My mom tried so many times to recreate apricot delights at home, and they turned out a disgusting mess every time.

I got a bit upset when I figured out that a lot of the stuff that Russell Stover and Whitman's put out are coming from the same factory. Sort of makes Valentine's candy less exciting.
