Anyone up for a farewell drink to Greenspun and the old ILX this week?

Tom, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm being disasterously vague, I know, but my own plans this week are a bit up in the air too.

Tom, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes. I do. Any day except Thursday (and tonight).

Anna, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Right, Wednesday then. I know Pete is watching Jaws on that night but surely he can sneak by for a nerve-steadying pint beforehand?

Tom, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

put me down for wednesday! aye well, i wasn't meant to be drinking this week but... THIS IS FAAAAMILY!!

katie, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

wednesday's looking good! not tue or thu. fri possibly.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

well, thursday is this, which i recommend you all come to. how about tuesday instead?

gareth, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, fridays not a bad idea!

gareth, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

wednesday is bad for me unless near cvt gdn as have a friend's birthday drinks in a bar there... other days ok though.

toby, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, it's Wednesday, but probably somewhere quite central and nearish cov g is doable.

Tom, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

porterhouse too "busy" for you chaps?

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

What is this "Porterhouse"?

The nearest Sam Smiths pubs to Covent Garden are The Angel on St Giles High St and the Princess Louise on High Holborn (oh I suppose also the Lyceum on the Strand if you're that soide of Cov. Gdn). It remains my view that those who do not enjoy the range of fare sold by S. Smiths can sensibly expect to suffer.

Tim, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Bah! I am watching Jaws as you well know Ewing and will be that way distracted all night as it also includes bug chats about various ivers psychoanalytic readings.

I think ILE should die anyway. A new board is NOT NATURAL. Man was not meant to meddle in such things.

Pete, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i wuv the princess louise and it's stunning toilet facilities. it's quite small for a reasonable gathering though, innit?

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Depends if upstairs is open, my Cornish friend. Also it's bigger than the Yorkshire Grey and we did OK in there.

Tim, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's have the drinks in a pub in Dublin, where I live.

DV, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

[dur dur]

Tom, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

*sobs* I remember what it was like to be near the Strand and not in the ISOLATED MIDDLE OF NOWHERE that is Millbank (no really, it's so far). I will come for a drink. I shall even try to have cheered up by then! Work is poo.

Sarah, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i have your cd sarah...

gareth, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Ach!! that's just reminded me - I started writing to you this morning but work poo meant I had to abandon after typing "Hello" or something... yay for cd! Thanks! *scurries off to finish mail*

Sarah, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be in Lyceum on Wednesday - I haf darts game arranged. Could try and combine the two.

Dr. C, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, how about a simultanaeous everyone in the world party for ILX? you could all go to the Porterhouse in London, and the Dublin posse (such as there is) could go the ORIGINAL & BEST Porterhouse in Dublin. And then we could send text messages to each other asserting that we are having better times than each other.

I'm not sure what the various non Dublin non London posses could do.

DV, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll hopefully there on wednesday, which pub in covent garden? Time?

Julio Desouza, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't the Lyceum pub (on the end of the Strand, near the old Lyceum, surprise) also a Sam Smiths? Haven't been there in years, but the upstairs used to have some nice comfy sofas...

Andrew L, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

might be there, might not. I might be going to see Lost in La Mancha.

jel --, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

For a minute there, before the thread itself appeared, I *REALLY CONVINCED MYSELF* that Tom Ewing had started reading Finnegans Wake, and 24 people had written in to add their views on the book.

the pinefox, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

andrew- is that the pub that we are going to then...I need to know around what time we'll meet (hopefully I'll be able to make it otherwise we can always have another drink to welcome ilxor heh...any bloody excuse).

Julio Desouza, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinefox - that's just mental.

DV, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it the lyceum then?

Dr.C, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

pinefox, dare to dream

Josh, Monday, 12 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah Julio, I have no 'influence' over the pint ppl, and prob. won't even be there on Wednesday - it was just a suggestion, I'm sure Pete or Tim or someone will have others...

Andrew L, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone make a decision and provide address/directions/fancyapint link, please. I am going to the Tate to catch the Picasso/Matisse show after work on Wednesday, but can come along a bit later.

Martin Skidmore, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm happy to try the Lyceum. Tim - is this OK? I would provide address/link but my internet seems to be knackered with the happy exception of ILx.

Tom, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Lyceum Tavern

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Can I say Bah! again.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete, come out. We are nicer than sharks.

Anna, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay! Darts and FAP!

Dr. C, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete, the shark = Viet Nam (as previously established.) Now you can go to the pub!

Andrew L, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

We're going to need a bigger pub.

Alan T, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Right near Charing Cross hurrah!

I will be bringing my dad's copy of Philip and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing. Perhaps the ile witched would like to come up with some kind of rites to perform?

Graham, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

graham i know of a rite. it involves the imbibing of a strange and mysterious substance known as BEER...

katie, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh No! RITE! Oh No!!

Tom, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Al, will we really need a bigger pub? My feeling is the Lyceum wd be OK if we went upstairs / got there reasonably early, but I very very rarely go there so I stand correction.

Not sure we wd really expect many more than we got last time (about 15?) and the Lyceum is as big as the YG, isn't it? Again, could well be wrong about this.

Tim, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Or do you just mnean we'll need a bigger pub if we're to flood it and introduce sharks / Minestrone Pete?

Tim, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh that's a good idea. ILX swim with the sharks!

Anna, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(Sorry, that was a rub Jaws joke to link in with what is looking to be a big mentalist meet up. I'm working on a nice pic to celebrate this solemn occasion...)

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you going to make same into a tshirt Al?

Tim, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

The shark = predatory female, nature, THE UNKNOWN, the vagina, Vietnam (though in 1975 this reading is pretty shakey), old age and the Republican Party. I'm takiong a psychologist along with me to rubbish their half arsed use of psychoanalytic theory.

And then drink wikkid cocktails.

Pete, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

So the Lyceum then? From half five / six?

Tim, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

aww! ive come over all excitable; just seeing the Princess Louise in print. My first london pub visit. It was before an interview and i very responsibly had a half of coke. Anyway...

chris, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

from six o'clock would be good. Any objections to this?

Julio Desouza, Tuesday, 13 August 2002 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Confirmation!
