Anna: I had no crepes but I did have grits for the first time ever. Katie: there was also just enough lox to make the day truly omnivorous. Ned and Andrew: it was loads of fun. RickyT: I am considering a further change to either Jean D'Eau or Johnny Promqueen. Sarah: It's "ni" as in nickel and as you put it "soooo" as in Susan, although the T is supposed to make a hard S sound that I just can't quite do and so I have to feel like an idiot for not being able to pronounce my own name properly. Dan: I read the other day that Keebler is having serious fiscal woes, and the WSJ had to get all catty and make a joke about the lead elf doing layoffs. J-Lu: So all over it, although my contention was less that I'm good at US-style dating and more that I might be better at UK-style dating (i.e., better than I am at US-style dating). Jel: I am so geeked that I got Kraftwerk. Nicole: We don't even have to share, we have happily adjacent birthdays. Felicity: Cooler than that girl from the Dishes? Rainy-wife: Did you send the walrus to my home address or to the mailroom at work? Geeta: Oh ho ho I wish I could answer that question (especially with "soon") but in the meantime I've renewed my lease here. Sundar: I think the project as a whole is in design and development limbo; I've been dutifully practicing my wanking but it's looking like I just don't have much of an ear for cheesy flash solos.

Whenever a good writer goes missing, I always suspect they've been kidnapped or headhunted to ghostwrite The Peculiar Neurodegenerative Inhabitants Of The Kazawa Atoll by Raleigh St. Clair.
Let me explain. The Peculiar Neurodegenerative Inhabitants Of The Kazawa Atoll is a book glimpsed for a second in the film The Royal Tenenbaums. Its author, Raleigh St. Clair, is a neurologist played by Bill Murray. The book didn't exist in 2001, but ten years later this Amazon page appeared for it. What was once merely a figment of Wes Anderson's imagination was on the way to becoming a reality. But who would pen this volume, surely destined to be the biggest bestseller neurobiology has ever known?
This is where Nabisco enters the picture. As he mentioned often when he used to post here, Nabisco was brought up in the Straits of Kazawa. He is, in fact, of Kasawan descent. I believe he spoke a little too freely about this in public, and it now seems increasingly likely that he's paid the price. His sudden disappearance can only be explained by one scenario: Wes Anderson's stooges have press-ganged him into the arduous task of ghostwriting - probably at gunpoint, in a high-security nissen beach hut - The Peculiar Neurodegenerative Inhabitants Of The Kazawa Atoll.
I wish, as I'm sure we all do, that we could mount a paramilitary-style operation to liberate him. But it's hopeless. We have no idea where the nissen hut is. There is one little consolation, though. If somebody has to write this tome (and somebody does; Anderson is a tyrant with a will of iron), it might as well be Nabisco. And he'll write it better than anyone else could.
Knowing our Nabisco, he won't be at all happy, for a start, about the "neurodegenerative" part of the title. Calling an entire people "degenerative" is tantamount to declaring they have the wrong shape of skull. So we can expect a subtly subversive text to emerge from this particular ghostwriter, one which (taking perhaps R.D. Laing's antipsychiatry as a model) will propose that the entire world is neurodegenerative, but the Kasawans are the only people smart enough to know it.
This, by the way, explains not only Nabisco's disappearance, but his spooky ability to be consistently right about absolutely everything. As Hans Bethe once remarked: "I have sometimes wondered whether a brain like Nabisco's does not indicate a species superior to that of man." Did I mention that the Kazawan Atoll is located a few light years to the left of the Crab Nebula?
